Hi,

Are the following sentences correct?

  1. I have windows vista on that machine. OK, but Windows Vista is a proper noun.
  2. The machine has the Windows Vista operating system. OK
  3. The machine has Windows Vista as the operating system. OK

The most natural expressions are

Windows Vista is installed on that computer.

Windows Vista is the operating system on that computer.

Thanks,

MG.

I am trying to understand why I can't use a proper noun in such a situation. Consider the following sentences.

1. We have John with us.

2. I have Todd working on the job.

Thanks again,

MG.

I think she was just saying you should have capitalized it: Windows Vista. The sentence was ok.

Liveinjapan, I think your sentence is ok.
