Hi,

Is it normal to mispronounce wonder? I can hear people constantly say /wOnder/, as opposed to normal /w^nder/, which should be pronounced like, e.g. in a cup.
If there wasn't another word, to wander, I woulnd't care.... Am I too petty? Smile [:)]

Is something wrong with my hearing? Smile [:)]
Can you give a similar great example with "to wander", to compare them both ? Smile [:)]

Thanks ant,

I'm a bit baffled on this right now, as different dictionaries "pronounce" it differently. The closest pronunciation to /w^nder/ I found at bartleby is

http://www.bartleby.com/61/57/W0205700.html

Compare it to "to wander"

http://www.bartleby.com/61/wavs/46/W0024600.wav

What I mean is that often people say #2 when they actually mean #1

I'm sorry, this is wrong forum, I should have posted it to the pronunciation forum. My apologies.

Wonder and wander are two different words. Please check any dictionary for the transcriptions :-)

Yes, and it's the pronounciation of the two in question!

EDIT: As Vanyatka said, dictionaries don't agree on that.
