The article below is excerpted from the college entrance examination of our country,

This is an episode from a 1960 science fiction story. The women in the story give birth to children that have the same appearance. They all have blond hair and " strange eyes." As the children grow, they run around village in a pack, wearing identical clothing and hairstyles, staring at everyone impolitely. What one children learn is also known by the others instantly. Villages began to __ their belief that the children all have "one mind." In this story, the children are produced by some unexplained force by outer space...

There are two options for this blank,

(1) wonder and (2) express

The answer is (2) express, but I think (1) would be better. Could somebody tell me what are the different meanings between these two words filled in the blank? And how do I explain the sentence?

Thank you for your patient to read my question.

Hi Lin,

I wonder - in the original did it really say " What one children learn is also known by the others instantly. " or did it say "What one child learns is also known by the others instantly."?

They may wonder to themselves. But they express to each other.
