Hello, in a book called the Mammoth Academy, a mammoth came down with a cold and had a "wooly hearing". What's that? Thank you.

Well, I suppose there is a word joke involved ('Wooly Mammoth'), but wooly also means 'confused and vague'.

'The question is,' said Humpty Dumpty, 'which is to be master-- that's all.'

I'm not familiar with the book but given the context my guess is that the mammoth is not hearing as well as usual due to his ears being stuffed up (as a result of the cold).

It's "came down with a cold and had a woolly hearing", by the way.
