Here i have a few words(in violet)...i don't understand. I mean...i just found their straight meaning...but can't get them in these sentences:
1-For example, the jilted groom may have booked hotel rooms, or the jilted bride may have spent money on a trousseaou, dress, cake, and all the other costs ofa reception; none of the expenses can be recovered from the other party unless...
2-Only in exceptional cases would a court order her to return the ring; f.ex., when the ring was a family heirloom, and the man had given it to her only the clear understanding, that if she didn't become a member of his family then the ring was to be returned.
3-All these rules are based on a presumption that the gifts were conditional on the marriage taking place.
4-After paying off the mortgage, and the estate agent's and solicitor's fees, the remaining money will be divided between them.
5-In the past bride seizure, payment and parental arrangement were regarded as the formal methods for deciding on marriage partners.
6-Had she not agreed, her parents would have thrown her out of the house, leaving her homeless and penniless.
