I'd like to ask about writing style. One textbook says that the first paragraph starts the line without indentation. The second paragraph makes white space at the beginning. Is this true? I saw some first paragraph have white space at the beginning. Is there one rule how to start? How about the second and third paragraph? How many letter should I omit as indentation?

As a general rule, the first line of each paragraph should be indented.
If you are using a typewriter, indent 5 letters from the left margin, then begin your sentence.
