Amy: Sandy, look! I've got a driver's license.

Sandy: You do? That's great! Are you going to buy a car?

I think Sandy should have said, "You have?" instead of "You do?". Am I right?

Hi Teo

"You do?" wouldn't surprise me at all "in real life".  Sandy has simply responded with the simple present tense, but in doing so she also translated Amy's 'have got' to just 'have' (same meaning).  In other words, Sandy responded as if Amy had said: "Sandy, look! I have a driver's license."

"You do?" is common in AmE.  I believe our British brethren might say "you have?" or "have you?"  Nona can fill us in.

In BrE, it would be "You have?"
