hi, someone told me ''you will get hooked'' what does that mean? he was adimring something in me then said that?

you will get caught/captive/entrapped in it

sometimes it has bad connotations, like in "hooked by drugs"

Generally speaking, it means 'you will become addicted to something'. eg As soon as I tried chocolate-chip ice cream, I got hooked.

In a more serious way, it's often used for people who become adicted to illegal drugs.

If someone says to you, 'The first time I saw you, I got hooked', they are saying they like(d) you a lot.

Hi Barbara. Thanks for the warning! For us Brits (as far as I remember!) it's not like that. It's similar to "getting hitched".
... Or has that got 'another meaning' in American English?! :-)

Nope, nope. To say "get hitched" means to get married. You're safe on that one.

This meaning of "hook up" is relatively new. But if you were to hear your sixteen year old daughter say to her friend about some guy "We hooked up at Mary's party" it would definitely have that meaning. Remember that as you search for the Valium.
