Hi, Where does one place the period? Is it after the ending quotation marks ("Leaf".) or before the ending quotation marks ("Leaf.") The sentence would be: I read the book "Leaf". OR I read the book "Leaf." Thanks, MVB

In the US, the period goes inside. In most other places, the period would go outside.

But as I said in your other post, don't use quotes for books. You use quotes for the names of articles.

Barbara, who answers in American English. My housekeeping skills attest to the truth of the second law of thermodynamics: Left to themselves, things get more and more random!

Hi,

How does one put the title of a book in a sentence if one cannot put different letters?  Which way is the best?

Like this?

I read the book: Leaf.

Thanks,

MVB

You cannot italicize and you cannot underline? Then and only then, go ahead and use the quotation marks. Don't use the colon.
