I like your explanation of this, but I still don't get it. Why do you have to say "you're my friend and all (attributes appertaining)" to your friend? I mean, what meaning does "all attributes appertaining" add to the base sentence?
Think of it as "Although you are my friend,..."
Paris, you're my friend and so on and so forth (things which I don't want/care to detail)
