Hi Feebs,

My comments are appearing in yellowgreen in the above post. I know it's hard to answer such a thing, especially when the

width of text doesn't fit on screen.

But whom should I address this application to then?  [If this post is advertised in the press, it will have an indication of who should be addressed. Usually it will be the Personnel Department or Human Resources Department - in whch case you need to start with the neutral "Dear Sir or Madam"]

             C/O. Mr. John Doe

Perhaps, by using C/O author of the application letter is trying to say that he is living with someone else like his grandfather and correspondence should be made to his grandpa's address.

Absolutely correct - but if "(late)" is inserted after the name, the interpretation is that the person in the address is dead.  Someone who is dead does not [generally] receive correspondence.
Your original posting had this:

  C/O Mr. John Doe (Late)

Hi Feebs,

Okay, now I get it. Should I use a period after C/O or brackets around it?

C/O. Mr. John    or      [C/O] Mr. John

Feebs11  #421136  Wed, 19 Sep 07 05:28 PM
neither - it is written "c/o ***" [nb - no capital letters]

Hi Feebs,

There are many other expressions of the kind c/o like:

D/O - daughter of

S/O - father of

D.O.B. - date of birth

Should these expressions also be written in small letters, but generally these expressions occur in the beginning of proceeding text?
