In the sentence of  your reply, you had this partial sentence.

.., we first must have an awareness of what kind of knowledge the students possess, what their learning habits are, and what their motivation level (levels???)is.

It is just a minor point but to make the sentence more coherent in terms of its congruity, how about making the noun level "levels," so they are all referring to them and their characteristics?

I'm not sure if you realize it was 6 months ago that Paco wrote the sentence that contains the word you are now asking him about.

I thought we were now discussing 'the wreckage'.
