Anyway, what a sad way to end a career. He should had restrained his violence, because all France was expecting the victory. He did so a marvelous tourney, and this only shows that a person must always maintain the head cool whatever the circumstances

It's very strange that Materazzi himself hasn't told us what he said: he's only said what he didn't say.
Maybe he's a little worried about incriminating himself – the FIFA disciplinary code article 55 states that:
Anyone who publicly disparages, discriminates against or denigrates someone in a defamatory manner on account of race, colour, language, religion or ethnic origin will be subject to match suspension for at least five matches at every level. The body will also pronounce a ban on his entering the confines of any stadiums and a fine of at least CHF 10,000. If the perpetrator is an official, the fine will be at least CHF 15,000.

It is easy to say that Zidane should have kept his cool and not hit Materazzi. I suspect the truth will come out soon, and what Materazzi said to Zidane must have been something really serious, not just about Zidane but also something very denigrating about his mother or his origin (from Algeria).
I don’t know whether it was by design or just the emotion of the moment that Materazzi did what he did. Although Italy won the Cup, they did not dominate the game, and they were clearly outplayed by the French team in the second half and in overtime. Maybe the Italians knew that “controlling anger” is Zidane’s Achilles' heel, and they might have planned to have Materazzi provoke Zidane, and get the latter thrown out of the game.
If this were proven true someday, the Italian victory will be tainted, and all soccer fans will be the losers.

Zizou might tell what Materazzi told him that made him hit the ceiling , as he has been invited by Canal+, a French channel. I'm sure that question won't be missing and this might be the occasion for him to explain his.....header. Now, would it be his word against Materazzi's???

I heard on the TV that it isn't true!(and Zidane told that he would soon tell us what did Matterazi said)
|

I hope it wouldn't be true too. Anyway, we have to wait for Zidane's answer.

I don't know... Let me tell you first that I know nothing about football, and don't even care about the "Bleus" (I'm not French), but there are 2 ways to look at it:
1. Z. should have kept a low profile and kept his cool, since he must have known by then there would be the "tirs au but", and that his not playing would deprive the French team of a good chance to win. Had he thought of the French team and of himself as a part of the team and of the issue of the game, he should have swallowed whatever the words were, and maybe taken a revenge on scoring against Italy.
2. But then, why not finish his career with "panache"? He had nothing to lose, he just acted selfish... (he's a man, after all!)
