i'v heard that there is a CAT exam or something like that! where can i take it? have you any information about that? any websites?

Is there a listing/web site/reference available of the various subject abbreviations that I could go to for ensuring that I am utilizing the OFFICIAL and CORRECT abbreviation of a person's title?

I'm interested in the possibility of teaching English for medical purposes. I've been doing volunteer English teaching to Asian immigrants here in New Zealand and really enjoy it; I'm in my mid 50's, a UK qualified radiographer (UK passport holder) with overseas experience and more than ready to leave day-to-day hospital work.
I'm contemplating taking a CELTA course in the next few months, continuing with the voluntary teaching for a year or two, then going back to Europe or maybe to Asia to do a few years EFL teaching. I keep reading that medical English is in increasing demand, and think I would be ideally placed as far as prior experience goes.
What are the prospects for an older person?
My radiography qualification was not a degree when I did it, but is considered "degree-equivalent" as nowadays it is a degree. Of course it is a science degree, not a BA ...

I'm very interested to hear any and all opinions on this.

My name is Brenda and i am from Peru. I am in the first year of medicine but i would like to continue my studies in england so i would like to know what options do i have??? or if anyone can help with that cos i've been looking in some universities but the part for international students is only for people that want to apply but they are not in an university already. Please i would really appreciate some help or any idea you can give me. And also what things do i have to do to study there? for example, i know that i have to take the TOEFL exam and also maybe another exam.

Please explain to me what the following lines mean as simple as possible, it is taken from a catalogue for an instrument (Scintillation System)

"The robust rack sample changer will accommodate either 336 standard vials or 448 miniature vials (depending upon the version)"

The Instrument counts per minute (cpm). The standard quench monitor is the IC#. Data can be normalized and blanks and\or backgrounds can be subtracted.Percent of reference can be calculated.

Hi everybody,

as there are a few people here whose native language is not English, I thought this book might help you: English for Doctors by Maria GyÃ¶rffy. A friend of mine said it helped him a lot to get his studies done in the USA. The book helps you develop language skills concerning history-taking, examination etc and covers all major medical specialties. There's also accompanying recorded material to learn pronounciation etc. The exercises are quite good and in step with actual practice.

UBELT have now supplied "Official UBELT Practice Tests". You can order tests directly from UBELT web site. I got two versions, they are fantastic especially the listening which includes a full transcript (but difficult). If you are learning medical English this is a must.
