When I was in high school, my friends always called me âMr. Personalityâ. I had such nickname because of my bad temper. Whenever there were problems and setbacks, I would be so easy to be disappointed and upset, and I liked to complain about that to others. My friends often tried to comfort me with patience at first, but my over emotional responses and poor manner always resulting in angered them at the end. One of my friends could not agree with what I had done and lectured me that, âIf you just keep complaining and arguing with others until you die, then you will miss a lot in your life.â I did not response, and he Continued his sermon, âTake it easy, just enjoy every moment you live and treasure everyone you love and care.â I was inspired by what he said, and it later became my maxim. The significance of life is not measured by how long people have lived, but by what people have achieved.

My friendâs name is Shawn. He was about five feet seven with a very slim body shape. People could easily recognize him by his symbolic red baseball hat which always attracted their attention. Shawn had a completely opposite personality than mine. His optimistic and easy going characteristic earned many complements and acceptances from most peers in my high school. Through my twenty years life, Shawn plays a very important role. He is just like a brother to me. Shawn and I graduated from the same high school and went to the same college, and he was also my roommate. I always imagine the day that we would both wear black long graduation gowns and throwing our college diploma to each other like what we had done in our high school graduation.

One night in my second months of college, Shawn received a phone call from his girlfriend, Jean, and Shawn told me that Jean decided to end their three years relationship. During the bed time, I heard Shawn creeping, sneezing his nose, and mumbling in his bed on the night. It surprised me. I had never seen him in such depression since I knew him. On the second day, I tried to comfort him with my other friend Vince. During lunch, Shawn pretended that he is calm. However, we found the truth on his face, His emotionless face looks like the stones in the Eastern Island. Sadness and despair lived in his heart for whole week. Vince and I used all the methods to relieve Shawnâs pain. On Saturday night, three of us went to downtown L.A for dinner. After that, Shawn asked Vince and me to go to the Santa Monica Beach. We both were hesitated at first but we did not reject his invitation because none of us want to disappoint Shawn. However, I can not regret more after that night.

The date was November 4th, 2007. It was a cold and humid night. Above of our heads, the army of fog was marching all over the sky. I was sitting on the front passenger while Shawn was driving his black Honda Civic, and Vince was sitting behind the driver seat. About 1:45 am, we drove on freeway 10 with the speed around 70 miles per hour. At 2:00am, we passed the freeway 405. We were the only car on the freeway. Outside of the windows, the fog grew thicker on the freeway as the street lights looked shadier and weaker. At the sudden, the feeling of panic came out from my heart. My sweaty hands were involuntarily shaking while my heart beating faster and faster. I looked around the car, Vince slept with his disturbing snoring while Shawn was crooning the melody of âStrongerâ by Kanye West. When I just turned my attention to the front, a black Audi with no light on suddenly appeared right in front of us and rushing toward us. Shawn immediately turned the steering wheel to the right, and He shouted, âWhat theâ¦..â Then, black Audi collided to the left front side of our car with a extremely loud noise. After that, our car spun like a top and hit the shoulder of the freeway.

Our car finally stopped. I was awaked, but I could not believe and understand what was just happened. I closed my eyes and took a long deep breath. When I just opened my eyes, I felt painful on my left arm. Then I looked at my left side, I found that Shawnâs body leaned back on the seat like a gun shot victim. His eyes were closed when blood came out from his mouth. I used all of the power from my body and yelled, âShawn! Wake up Shawn!â However, I did not see any response from him. I immediately turned to Vince There was blood and broken glass all over his face while his body was wriggling. Instantly, I loosened my seat belt, opened the door, and bounced out from the car. I opened the back door and tried to drag Vince out of the car. But I failed to loosen his seat belt which stuck him in the back seat. I waved and yelled to coming cars. A taxi stopped by and noticed me he had dialed 911.

The Honda Civic was crushed like a squeezed soda can. Broken glass, wheels, and particles fall all over the ground. In a moment, two patrol cars stopped next to our car. I came to them and begged, âPlease save my friends in the car, they are bleeding.â 2:10am, the fire trucks and ambulances had arrived. I kept begging to them to save my friends, and a police tried to console my feeling and told me to sit aside. The torches from police beamed on Shawn and the crushed civic. My body was shaking and I heard the wind was shouting. Then, I saw the fireman and nurses carried Vince into the ambulance but Shawn was still in the car. âWhy donât they save him?â I kept asking myself, but I did not have any energy to speak them out. Soon, a fireman walked slowly to me, and I pointed my finger to Shawn. He shook his head, choked and informed me that, âYour friendâ¦..Umâ He paused for a second. âHe couldnât make itâ¦â¦â In a meanwhile, I saw something white that appeared on the top of my head. I did not remember anything after that.

At 3:00pm, I woke up. I saw my brother and aunt sat right next to my bed. When I tried to speak, my aunt nodded her head and spoke, âWe all knew what happened.â My brother noticed me that Vince was still suffering in a critical condition. Suddenly, tear poured down from my eyes like a water fall. Several minutes later, two police came in, and they asked me about what happened and what I remembered. After I told them the whole story, they told me I should count myself lucky instead of being sad because I would be the one being killed if Shawn did not put steering wheel to the right side. Also, they noticed me that, the female driver in the black Audi was seriously drunk. Although she did not have any injuries, she would be charged by a second degree murder.

After the accident, I felt I went into a new stage of life. Although I can never stop to think about Shawnâs death for even one day in these 11 months, I always tried to cheer myself up. Especially when I saw Vince was rapidly recovered from critical injuries. Also, my family and friends always care about me. Therefore, I do not want to give any more worry to them. Not like before, I no longer complain or moan about what had happened on us. I did my best to make myself calm and think more optimistic. Whenever I thought about what happened in November 4th, 2007, I could hear Shawnâs voice echoing, âJust enjoy every moment you live and treasure everyone you love and care.â

Based on a recent statistic on the internet about whether the most important aspect of a job is the money a person earns, the number of people who advocate to this standpoint occupies 75 percent of all the voters, and seemlingly has a tendecy of incresing. However, people who object to that viewpoint, on the other hand, argue that the ability you abtain from the work and the friendship developed through the work are far more essential than the money. From my perspective, I completely agree with the latter idea.

Among the most convicing reasons identified by people against that money is the most important aspect, what should be emphasized firstly is that you should cherish the oppotunity of improving your personal working ability, especially for the graduate students who are about to start their career. If one have a dream to become a engineer professor, after he starts to work, there are millions of chances provided to communicate with the knowledgable and expericenced person, from who he probably gains a large number of skills that could not be learned in the school. As well, if one desire to be a manager, it is the possibility of contacting with the well-known successful managers that may avoid the new-comers of suffering a great deal of difficulties. It is just a small part of millions of examples, which are impossible to be listed entirely.

Another contributory cause of that money is not the first thing being concerned is that the friendship is somehow play a more important role than money. The more friends you have, the more convenient you life would be. The friends are the people who can do me a favor and pull me out of the darkness. We may take a common example of that. When I meet a serious problem when I am working, if there's no friends with me, it is probable that I will never figure it out, and for sure I can not get paid. Imagine the situation that our eyes are just looking at the money and we don't pay any attention to our friends, will we finish our job easily and have a happy mood?

Everything happens for a reason. What can not be neglected is that money is an indispensable part of a job. If we don't get money from our job, we even fail to live through the life, especially when we are the only person who are able to support the family. It is undeniable that the foundation of our life, including house, food and clothes all comes from money.

From what has been discussed above, although I agree that the importance of money get from a job can never be ignored because the function that it can change for the life necessaries, I appeal to the idea that money is not the most important aspect of a job. The importance of experience and ability we have from the job can never be exaggerated, it is even benificial to your further job. In addition, the friendship from the work is valuble for the reason that it can make the life more easier. As far as I am concerned, the significance of the two points above far overweigh that of money.

It was an emotional yet distant memory. Tears began to drip down my grandpaâs weary face as he firmly held my hands. He looked into my confused eyes and said something, but his voice was clouded by the hustling noises of the airport. My aunts comforted him as he reluctantly let go of me, and I followed Warren toward the gate. With every couple of steps, I would glance back at grandpaâs gloomy and wrinkled face as his image faded into the hectic crowd.

When I was only five years old, my parents left me to pursue an education in the United States. My grandparents gladly welcomed me to live with them for the next four years to come, taking care of me as if I were their second son. I loved them very much; they provided me with a blissful and memorable childhood in my parentâs absence. When grandpa informed me that I would finally be able to reunite with mom and dad, I did not know how to react. After all, I was only ten years old. Warren, my dadâs dearest friend, would accompany me on the plane ride.

My jaw dropped when I first saw the size of the plane. I curiously went up to the window as I examined its enormous wings and gargantuan body. The interior was equally astonishing, designed with two floors and countless rows. Warren carefully buckled me in after we found our seats. He smiled at me and made a gesture with his hands, simulating us blasting off. I held onto a card of simple English words like âbathroomâ and âwaterâ my cousins made me as the fourteen hour flight began. I sat anxiously in my window seat as the plane began its approach toward the blue sky. The rumbling sound beneath my feet increased endlessly as the plane lifted off, and everything down below faded into an image of the blurry flat earth.

After the movies and dinner, the sky began to grow dim as the plane quieted down. Almost everyone around me seemed to have fallen asleep. I felt alone. Then it hit me. A myriad of questions rushed into my head. Will grandpa and grandma be ok? When is the next time I will be able to see them again? Whatâs America like? How will I learn English? Feebly searching for answers, I began to shed tears, and my whimpering soon became a loud cry. Then, I felt Warrenâs arms around me; his expression was comforting, as if he understood what I was feeling. With my eyes closed, I slipped further into the seat as I tried to flush those questions out of my head.

The next thing I could recall was Warren and I walking into the greeterâs hall at the Minnesota airport. I caught my mom running towards us with the corner of my eye while my dad followed closely behind. She lifted me into the air and gave me a big hug while Warren and my dad talked. After saying good bye to Warren, my parents and I proceeded to the parking lot. The car ride to our apartment was awkward at first; my parentsâ appearances were so different from what I had remembered. I felt as if two strangers were bombarding me with questions about the plane ride. However, their familiar voices allowed me recall some of my early memories with them, like the first lullaby and the first birthday song we sang together.

It was the first day of elementary school here in the United States that made me realize how blessed I was. My parents took one of the biggest risks of their time in order to provide me with this opportunity, and I made a promise that day to value it to the fullest.

Young People are slaves to fashion. Discuss.

It is true that young people are quick to follow anything around the world which appears âhipâ or âinâ. It is in their nature to want to be like young people in other parts of the world. They are quick to relate and to follow what they think is fashionable. By fashion, are included dress, taste in music, language, hairstyles, drug-taking and even moral values. Except in the most traditional of societies, it is impossible to control the coming of fashion from other countries. With television, books and magazines bring so easily available, the world has shrunk and what is discovered as âfashionâ in one part of the world spreads like wildfire everywhere else.

Youth, usually referred to as teenagers, are rebels because of restlessness within. They want to assert their individuality and the values of their peers, and break away from the influence of their parents and their parentsâ generation. It is this restlessness that makes teenagers keeps close to their groups. They seek relationships and in the process get carried away by the need to be with group in order to gain acceptance. More often, the influence of the group and the need to be up-to-date with fashion has no bad results and sometimes, the influence can even be good. But as often as not, what happens is that there is blind adherence to the standards set by the group and being slaves to whatever happens to be in fashion at the time. This can be undesirable because there is little reason involved. The situation may be such that the youths in the group do what is in fashion and what the group leader decides to be âhipâ and little thought is given to consequences. Groups of youths who go about vandalising public and private property because they think that it is fashionable come under this category. Often the result is apprehension and punishment by the law and a criminal record that would ruin oneâs future.

Hence, we see that the tendency to be slaves to fashion can lead to a lot of danger. Yet it is true that for generations after generations of youth, the same tendency is present. Can anything be done to curb this spirit? In very regimented societies, youth are controlled by the tenets of custom and religion and in some cases, force is used to make sure that the rules are obeyed. Breaches of the rules are severely dealt with as if the youths are common criminals. Of course, this is the other extreme. Controlling youths with force curbs the good that could come out of the force and energy that drives all of them in that age. It would be a waste indeed for instead of being used, the energy is stopped from flowing.

Youth is just a passing age and one where naturally there is rebelliousness. Everything should be done to ensure that the adults understand why youths behave this way. Methods to guide them at the time when they are becoming slaves to fashion must be found. There are many harmless outlets that youths could be channelled to at the time that they begin this obsession with fashion. Some of these could be doing social work, learning new skills and even working. Perhaps, parents can build up a relationship of trust before their children reach teenage â sometimes called the problem age or the difficult age. What needs to be realised is that the tendency to be slaves to fashion is actually the crying out of a deeper need to be understood, recognised and loved. If parents, schools and other bodies can hear this cry above the mere outward expression of the adherence to fashion, or better still, stand by the youths before the rebellion begins, a lot of good can be achieved.

Social Justice âMarriageâ

Marriage is a custom which can be found in every human culture. Although the forms and rules are differ. Marriage is a form of commitment between man and woman. It is a legal recognized relationship by a religious ceremony between man and woman who intent to live together as sexual and domestic partners. It is can also an arrangement between families whereby parents create a kind of business transaction in order to maintain family status and level. Modern marriages become more complicated today due to social justice issue such as homosexual marriage and divorce.

Arrangement marriage used to be common in the ancient world and it is still practice in most countries today especially to those high power and status families. Parents have control over their childâs happiness. They will one who will choose and decide to whom their child going to marry. For the sake of family status and power they sacrifice their own childâs happiness. Freedom and happiness have been taken out from their children. Arrangement marriage is also a form of solemn promise between two families. My parent married was arranged but they opting for love marriage. Even though they donât love each other, but at least they know each other for long time. They try to accept and love the one another and now they live happily with six children in a comfortable living. This kind of marriage arrangement is good because both families know each other very well. But not for others, they donât even know who their going to marry. They cannot see the appearance and personality until the wedding day. Marriage means people marrying for love and live rest of their life for the person their love. Unfortunately, marriage is just a primary union which made good economic sense and in order to solidify political alliances.

Modern people are pushing the trend toward amorality same-sex marriage. Same-sex marriage has been top debate issue in our political and society today. Even higher Supreme Courts take action about this matter. Majority people are opposing about same-sex marriage or gay marriage, especially in religious groups. They insist that marriage is between one man and on woman. They been taught this way and it was written in Holy Bible for many thousand years. As a Christian myself, I have been taught by pastors, church members and family that there only two gender that God created. Gay is considering a moral sin. Although, I have been taught that way but I never look down on gay people. I have big respect for them, it is not their choice to be gay it happen from their own will. They also human have the right to choose who they want to married. I support gay civil union for gay couples, but it doesnât mean that I support gay marriage. Marriage has been union of one man and one woman in all human cultures throughout human history. It has been the standard custom in many cultures for several thousand years. Unfortunately, the definition of marriage today is radically different from what it was several thousand years ago. Same-sex marriage destroys the definition of marriage, because it no longer represents the inherently procreative relationship of opposite sex pair bonding.

Marriage was born from primitive cultures that recognized that males and females mated and as a result produced children that needed to be cared for. Unfortunately, the rates of files divorce increasing rapidly especially in United State. Many people filing divorce because the relationship is not going well. In the first place they didnât know what is marriage really means. They just though that the intimate love between two people are enough to get married. It is more than that; it is more on responsibility and sacrifice. It is an idea couples committing for life and raising children together and sharing the struggles of survival. Divorce is the most stressful event that affects family especially on children. Children may feel a great loss and as well as anxiety and sadness. Back in hundred years ago, divorce cases are very rare. Even the love between both parents is gone; they still stay together for the sake of their children. Parent divorce made a big impact on children, from old saying that âchildren learn what they liveâ is very true. Parent is childrenâs role model, whatever parent do the children will imitate it. Children of divorced parents perform more poorly in school. They also are more likely to repeat a grade and to have higher drop-out rates and lower rates of college graduation. It is really big impact for our society; federal government spent more money on school because higher repeat grade. Marriage is foundation of family. However, the foundation is getting weak and higher consumption for singles.

The meaning of marriage is differs from one person to another, from time to another. In ancient times, marriage is a form condition where women most treated as a property for men. Historically period, marriage is permanent institution that once entered cannot be dissolved beside death. Romantic love has been made the most important basis for marriage. Marriage is also a commitment and agreement of both men and women. Certainly, in the modern world, the meaning of marriage is become more complicated. Marriage is primary union which made good economic sense. People are pushing the trend into an amorality society. Same-sex couples are pursuing the right to be married. Unfortunately, a legal recognition didnât allow same-sex to be married, it will change the meaning of marriage extremely differ. In addition, higher divorce rates many children will not be raised in a traditional family unit. The meaning of marriage never define, it is changing as the times change. As society changes, the institution of marriage changes as well.

Report Proposal

Topic D: Weather Forecasts

Step 1

Before we do data analysis in this report we need to be certain we understand the questions we need to answer. Two recommended questions are provided in the reportâs instructions.

There are several issues needed to be addressed first before answering the questions.

We need some data for this analysis. We need to know how we are going to collect the data and for which regions we are going to collect the data. Also, we need to know who the authority on providing accurate daily temperature forecasts is. What is the population on which we going to project our inferences. How are we are going to produce samples of data for our analysis: ourselves or use the data from another source. Whether or not the data samples can be selected randomly. What sample size we are going to use. If two data samples can be obtained from two independent sources. So we need to design an experiment to collect the data making sure itâs accurate, relevant and does not violate any of the assumptions of our analysis.

The first question we are going to answer states that we need to determine if forecast maximum daily temperatures significantly different from true maximum temperatures. How do we determine what difference in these temperatures is significant? Do we use a conservative approach or a larger difference in temperatures is acceptable for this analysis? Similarly, we need to decide what of level of significance to use in our hypothesis tests.

Once accurate and relevant data samples are collected and the calculations are carried out we then need to interpret our findings and draw a conclusion. The following questions need to be considered: can we use our findings for the future temperature forecasts in the two regions? For immediate future only, for the next 10 years? Can we assume our findings are applicable to the period when temperature forecasts were at an early stage in the two regions of interest?
Furthermore, if it is found that the proportions of correct forecast temperatures differ for the two regions significantly then what do we do next? We assume this fact or do we investigate further to determine the cause for this difference?

Step 2

In this hypothesis test I will use a conservative measure with the average of differences of 2 degrees Celsius or more (â¥2) between forecast maximum daily temperatures and true maximum temperatures to be considered significantly different.

In hypothesis test I am going to use 5% significance level to determine wether the average of differences between forecast maximum daily temperatures and true daily maximum temperatures recorded for each region is significantly different.

Assume the average of differences between the temperatures is equal to or less than 2 degrees in Celsius.

H0: Î¼ â¤ 2
H1: Î¼ > 2

Î¼ is the average of differences between forecast maximum daily temperatures and true daily maximum temperatures recorded for each region.

To determine if proportions of correct forecast temperatures (to within 1 degree Celsius) are the same between the two regions I will use the following hypothesis test:

H0: Ï1 = Ï2 => H0: Ï1 - Ï2 = 0
H1: Ï1 â Ï2 => H1: Ï1 - Ï2 â 0

Ï is proportion of the population of correct forecast temperatures to within 1 degree Celsius.

Furthermore, I will calculate 99% confidence intervals for the average of differences between forecast maximum daily temperatures and true daily maximum temperatures recorded for each region.

The assumptions for the hypothesis tests are:

Two data samples are randomly selected;
Two data samples are independent. Two sets of data were produced by two different meteorological stations for two different regions;
Two sampling distributions of the means for temperature differences are approximately normally distributed. By Central Limit Theorem this condition will be met if the samplesâ sizes are sufficiently large (n â¥ 30). Our samplesâ size will be at least 30.

Step 3

In this report I will use data I have obtained from the Australian Bureau of Meteorology. The Bureau keeps archives of historical data on climate statistics for various locations around Australia and provides it to the public on request.

In Australia there are regional meteorological stations responsible for reporting weather forecasts for their respective regions. I obtained the data for Adelaide metropolitan area produced by Kent Town meteorological station (station number: 23090) and for Perth metropolitan area produced by Perth East meteorological station (station number: 9225) for the period of 01/01/2006 - 24/07/2008.

The two meteorological stations forecast highest and lowest temperatures for the next 3 days each day and update their weather forecast reports several times during 24 hours. The latest weather forecast update for the day is done in late afternoon or during evening. In this report I will use latest updates on weather forecasts released by the meteorological stations during the days for the following days. In doing so I will ensure that the latest, most accurate and consistent temperature forecast readings are used in our data analysis.

I have also obtained a file of historical records on the actual highest and lowest temperatures recorded in Adelaide metropolitan and Perth metropolitan areas for the period of 01/01/2006 - 25/07/2008. In total there are 937 temperature records for each region.

I used random generator to randomly select 30 dates from the period of 01/01/2006 - 24/07/2008 for each region separately. I then, for each region, selected a pair of temperature records from the two data sets for each randomly selected date: the maximum temperature recorded on a selected day and the maximum forecast temperature on the previous date during the evening of the selected date. Once random pairs of records for each region are determined then I calculated the differences between the temperatures pairs taking absolute magnitude for each value to account for some negative results e.g. when forecast temperature is underestimated. I assorted the list of differences in ascending order.

Step 4

Once two data samples are randomly selected and presented in appropriate form for statistical analysis Excel 2003 will be used to carry out necessary calculations.

For hypothesis tests and for 99% confidence intervals I will use PHStat2 package (add-in for Excel) which comes with various statistical functions and procedures producing quality outputs. A free version of the package can be obtained from http://www.prenhall.com/phstat/

The assumptions for hypothesis tests I have described above which are:

Two data samples are randomly selected;
Two data samples are independent. Two sets of data were produced by two different meteorological stations for two different regions;
The two sampling distributions of the means for temperature differences are approximately normally distributed. By Central Limit Theorem this condition will be met if the samplesâ sizes are sufficiently large (n â¥ 30).

In this analysis the population is all available forecast temperatures ever produced by the two meteorological stations for the two regions. A large sample of 937 temperature records I obtained is not really entire population. However, knowledge and expertise as well technological advances in meteorology have changed significantly in the last 30-40 years. This factor has to be taken into account and probably a subset of the entire population, all forecast temperatures reports produced in the last 10 years for the two regions, for example, would be more appropriate for our analysis. As forecasts are more accurate and consistent for the current period of time.

I started my acquaintance with poetry of Alexander Nabokov , as it seems strange, from the novel Luzhin's Defence. Usually the one starts reeding a novel Lolita and then reads another ones. Everyrhing seems to happen spontaneously. I don'eteven suspect as far as this book makes me think , although I get used to the chess.Before reading I know that Nabokov wrote down this novel, borrowing image from Alexander Alekhine, the great Russian chess player. Honestly, I got very interested about Alekhin, he was very creative and talented one, and his style of playing was amazing. Moreover, having extended inside his biographers' essay and found myself in the atmosphere of his games, which played with tremendous simplicity, excitement and those gave no chances to his opponents at once. All of that showed extraordinary beauty and strength of the chess and I took an interest in this novel with new power. But let me be consecutive.

Vladimir Nabokov, thÑ poet-emigrant, was referred to pleiad of poets, who went through fire and water in epoch of revolution.And that left its unique mark in his works. Nabokov was born in 1899 in St.Petersburg, got home education and in 1919, left Russia with his family and moved to London, and more late in Berlin. His father, Vladimir Nabokov, died in 1922 who was prominent politician and stressed (stood out against background of his liberal views) with his liberal looks (views). He defenced his opponent with his chest, historian Milyutin, in whom the terrorist' bullet was shot. It affected so much on the Nabokov's attitude towards politics that he tried to be far away from it as he could. The real material independence was given by his novel "Lolita", which was discussed hotly, and sometimes it make me laugh,, however the cohesive rows of american poets boycotted it and that left unpleasant smell. American poets called this novel ,written in english, a pornography. At first it had been published in France, and in 1958 the novel saw the light in USA and became a bestseller at once. Nabokov is very amazing poet. Having started his action in 1916, he had his collected stories published and he claimed himself to be a peculiar writer. Bunin wrote about him: "This urchin dpulled out the gun and laid everyone,me included... " His creative work, especially mature stories, joined the ranks of beautiful poems. Many writers received his culture, his style and image of writing. There were enemies (opponents) of his works. However there were no one who could say Nabokov to be an talantless. The Nabokov's prose is high-poetical. It fascinates, pierces through mind, makes one think about the real content of things. One of the most point in his works is appeal to the inner world of a human, to his soul, to his creative origin. The writer attempts to get inside the main point and shows the personal's wealth. The many writers supposed that it caused by Nabokov's sympathy for the wealthy. However, it's absolutely wrong. His heroes right are the most common people, but their simplicity tends to be reffered to social status. Such course of work can be explained by empathising with fates of nationales, who found themselves abroad. The word existence is the most suitable one to describe emigrants' living because their life is filled with a poorness,desperate and suicide. In many novels we can find the challenge to the society and limitless desperate in which the heroes leave. What is the assasin rendered for killing emigrant? Luzhin was being learned to be the same as other was and his father worried about that and urgently wanted to find out the reason of his son's apathy to the whole world. Unfortunately father never found it out. Cohesion of the pupils, having place in the school as a rule, just made this strange boy scare away. He was always finding the secluded corner to hide. Solitude and reticence are the way to avoid the problems. However, there is something in the inner world of Luzhin that isn't affected by despondency. The beatufil day became, and Luzhin remembered that for the whole life and it defined his fate. It was a board, having left on the table. And the boy is absorbed in this amazing and ancient game with a whole his talent and a soul. There was something in those 64 two-colored squares, something revealed him a world of the secrets and beauty of the ancient Indian game and he found out that, as it seemed, he lacked and the light faded before enigmatic combinations. Neither absence in school, nor old jew's death, nor parents' reproaches couldn't make his talent and finally fatal passion stop. Nabokov seems to write in very callous way but there is an inner Luzhin's world concealed, the whole harmony of his talent and wish. Just a few years passed through, Luzhin became an GM and moved abroad. Suddenly the "obliging" man appeared - Valentinov who is ready to help and offered protection. Later he wrote down the letters to Luzhin's parents, convincing them there is a wide area for his son's talent to realize and always repeating the phrase "we are friends - we get even with all". There is no suddenness Nabokov chose his image. Another way to show the "Russian soul" of Nabokov to reveal the infamy and lucre of Valentinov's image. What's about women? There is only a woman who can fall in love with that unhappy and defenceless man. She didn't find neither GM nor man, who can make a profit for her. She liked his shyness. She liked to take care of him. His awkwardness made her more cute about him. She is really into him, his hands, eyes, the way he's moving are pleasant for her. She could keep enjoying the way he painted small things, the way he read and slept. Reading through the novel, we could see the temper is peculiar to a russian, sympathy and love brought together. It's said noone can puts builds love on the sympathy. But it was nothing for her and she married him, not losing a hope, she would make him divert from fatal game, the gambit of which would be his life.
At first there were a whole world of something new and undiscovered - a literature, poems, german papers' notices, walking, wife's attention. He really enjoyed it, trying to forget his game against Thuratu which would lead to the nervous breakdown and medical treatment in the clinic. The love was becoming more strong the time passed away. She walked with him, finding a lot of ways to distract him from his obsession, realizing in chess. However, fatal moment appeared in their life seemed to be improving.
All started from Luzhin's find. The old chessboard which was in his lining from time immemorial. He had found it and tried to hide it away in scary just for the wife not to find it out. Having locked in his room, he found the salvation, being found on fearful circumstances, time, places and the most important - on his weak consciousness, low spirit and logic, which lodged all his mind-squares with exactness and estimation. And the end was scaring:

Beginning from the first one, I must say that television is one of the most important invention in transforming information history . From very long ago, people had already known how to transform information in many different ways but only when the first television programme was broadcasted , a new age had begun , the age of image transformation. Television nowadays has been very popular, and almost every family have the access to it. By sitting ideally at home , watching TV , you can get a whole look all over the world. The appearance of television and television broadcasting enriches our entertainments . Many events and competition can be watched âliveâ and many exclusive movies are presented as well (although itâs a bit late in comparison with seeing those movies in the cinema) , but all are legal and youâre free to enjoy them. In addition, if you want to travel but do not have enough money, I suggest you can enjoy traveling in the TV (for example watching the discovery channel or national geography channel) , theyâre screened 24/24.

With that time , you can learn several language as well as finish some studying course. On the other hand , television programme are not always suitable for all ages.Sometimes , there are some movies contain sexual material and violence which affected the stormy phase of growing of children and teenagers and should not be watched ,even by some adults. It will be extremely dangerous if parents neglect their children to discover the TV programme themselves as they will immediately take influence of what they see . To rectify this situation , parents must supervise their children âs TV watching throughout their childhood and adolescence period. An occasion when you had to put up with someone who was very difficult to get along. ( The storyline was taken from somewhere)

âLiz, get ready! They are coming at one in the afternoon!â Mum hurried me. I purposely chose my dress slowly. My wonderful aunt and that imbecilic baboon were coming to visit us from Malaysia. That simpleton would be none other than my extremely irksome cousin.
He is fourteen and yet he acted as though he was six years old. Just listening to his voice alone would make me want to puke.

At exactly one in the afternoon, my perfect aunt and that âbaboonâ arrived.

âLizzy! My dear girl, how nice to see you!â My aunt ruffled my hair and passed me a nicely wrapped present. What an aunt! Yon He, my cousin, was standing beside her and smiling sweetly to my mum. Once my mother turned her back, Yon stuck out his tongue at me. How could I spend a whole day with him! I wanted to faint; I needed to find an excuse to get away from him â for a day, at least.

âOh, look whoâs calling,â I increased the decibel count of my voice. The phone on my hand wasnât even ringing. âHi, Jasme! Oh, todayâ¦ Yesâ¦ I am free, no problem. See you there!â I acted.

âStop pretending Liz.â Amazingly, my mother had seen through my act. âWould you like to bring Yon to the nearby mall?â She asked.

âNope, not really,â I replied quickly. All the time, Yon was watching me with his beady eyes. It was not that I was mean or anything, but he was very difficult to get along with.

âAunty, I really hope Liz can bring me to tour around,â he paused for a second. âI really, really hope I can have some time with my lovely cousin.â

He was telling a pack of lies!

For an hour, I tried persuading mother that I had homework to do but she was not convinced. Reluctantly, I bought âbaboonâ out for a walk.

We were passing by a fruit stall while on the way to the mall. I was telling him that Singapore was no different from Malaysia and suggested that he need not come visit that often. Suddenly, the uncle tending the fruit stall interrupted me.

âHey, boy! That will be two dollars!â I managed to stop myself from crushing Yon into powder. While I was talking to him just now, he was busy pinching a mango. After I painfully dug out a two-dollar note and handed to the uncle, Yon actually had the nerve to pass a comment.

âWhat? Two dollars for that soft thing? Malaysiaâs mangoes are so much better and cheaper at only one dollar each!â He said to me after I had paid the badly damaged mango. I forced my anger down.

Next, we passed by a shop selling branded bags. âLook at that Converse bag! I bought one at home for only twenty-five dollars! Itâs selling at forty dollars!â I willed him to shut up, but failed. I could have bit his head off but I knew that the mummyâs pet was going to complain.

âLiz, I want that teddy bear!â Yon whined loudly while pointing to the soft toy on the shelf of a toy shop in the mall. His whine was so loud that I was so sure everyone in the mall could hear him.

âGrow up, Yon, youâre no longer a kid!â I snapped at him. Thereâs no way I am going to use my own money on him again. I saw the direction of his eyes drifted to me. His eyes were getting moist.

âDarn, heâs going to cry.â I thought.

âMummy will buy me anything I want in Malaysia! You must buy that for me! I want it and I must have it!â He was stamping his foot on the floor, each step pounded like thunder.

Suddenly, a hot tiny bubble of anger burst inside me. The mercury shot through the thermometer. I needed to teach this brat who the boss was.

âLook over there!â I pointed, âItâs your favourite Manchester United soccer T-shirt!â I knew he was a huge fan of Manchester United. This ought to do it! As he was blabbering on about how cheap the shirt was in Malaysia, I tiptoed away â my whole body howled with merriment.

After an hour of silence at home, Yon was back â brought back by the police. You should have seen Yonâs face. It was violently red with fear. He was sobbing so much that he could not breathe. I enjoyed watching his face. I even compliment myself for doing such a magnificent job even though I had gotten a hard scolding from my mother after that. That should teach Yon a lesson! I laughed secretly. The scolding I got was worth it. It was amazing to let him be lost in the mall!

Can someone help me edit my personal statement

My mom once told me a story about the lion and the deer. She said on the African grassland the deer mother tells her children when they run, they must run faster than the slowest deer because if they don't, then they will get eaten by the lion. The lion mother also tells her children when they run, they must run faster than the slowest deer, because if they donât, then they will not catch any deer and starve to death.
This story has taught me a variable lesson: it taught me to always try my hardest because other are trying their as well. This is why during my junior year in high school, I decided to push myself to the limit, to get the best out of myself by taking as many AP classes.
During my junior year I decided to challenge myself academically by taking as many AP classes I can. I took three AP classes including world history, chemistry and language. These AP classes were all difficult but I wanted push myself to the best of my ability. Of these three classes AP world history was easiest for me because I read a lot of books on history so I had a lot of background information. As result I was able to get A on every single history tests and score a five on the AP exam. AP chemistry was much harder for me, in chemistry I had to work more then any other class I had ever taken. Every night I would start doing chemistry homework at eight and not finish until twelve clock. But during this time I always worked as hard as I can and in the end the result of my hard works was clear; I was able to learn chemistry and score a five on the AP exam. The last AP class I took was AP language. It was my weakest subject. I am was born in China and English was my second language so even my parents werenât sure if I am ready to take this class. In the end I still decided to take it because I wanted to challenge myself. In that class I had to write one essay every week and write a ten pages research essay for the first semester. In the end I was able to survive it with a b average and a three on the AP exam. It wasn't perfect, but I tried my best and as result I am proud of result.
Throughout my junior year I always tried my hardest whatever is in school. This is because I know if I tried my best, I will have the greatest chance of succeeding.

In our Interpersonal communication class we have to select two questions and submit our answers. The two questions I chose were on ethnocentrism & confirmation messages. Should I title the essay, Ethnocentrism and Confirmation messages and proceed with the assignment. Or should I use one title, Ethnocentrism and discuss the topic. Then use another title, Confirmation Messages and finish the essay? I am utilizing the MLA format but cannot find an answer to my question. Any help would be appreciated.
