Well, I think it's something like "if you're in the top 5 posters, you're rank 1, and if you're in the next 10 you're rank 2", and so on (I don't know the exact figures).

(It seems to come with the software.)

Exactly the way Ruslana explained. Each category has a particular number of posts range. So, if your posts fall in to that range you'll get the rank assigned to that range.

Post rank is different from your exact place in terms of the number of posts. There are 0, 128, 64, 32, 16, 8, 4, 2, and 1 post ranks exist. I guess it is an "average" place you take according to the number of your messages.

This does not seem to be the case.

My "post rank" is 8, but I am certainly not 8th in terms of the number posts.

Actually, it seems. The more posts you make, the higher rank you get (the 1st rank is the highest).

If you click on the name of a poster at the side of a post it takes you into a profile. The last item is 'post rank'.

What is the significance of this in one's profile? It does not seem to have any correlation with the number of posts.
