In a letter, if you don't know the name of the person to whom you are sending the letter, you start "Dear Sirs,". You are right MrP, it's very disconcerting when someone ends with Best and in my case its even more because she has ended it with "My Best". Last week I sent a fax to a hotel in London in order to book a room and I addressed the letter to such Mrs. X with whom I exchange some e-mails in preceding days.
So, I knew the name of the person I was writing to, but not personally.
I began the letter writing: Dear Mrs. X
and ended with: Yours sincerely

The sender's regard or respect (hopefully high) for the recipient should be evident from the content of an email. The correct usage is either "Best wishes" or "Kind regards" - but never a combination of the two "Best regards" - which is at best clunky and at worst reveals a lack of good grammar.
It is also fine to use "Yours sincerely" although this would normally be applied to a letter rather than a (less formal) email.

Re: Best regards, Kind regards, or Yours sincerely, - which is correct

Faithfully? It applies to any letter where the recipient is unknown. Hence, if you begin with Dear Sir/Madam you end with Yours Faithfully . If you know the person in a formal context, or at least their name/sex, then you write Yours Sincerely or Sincerely. Ergo, if it is a letter to a lecturer, it would begin Dear Dr. Euripides and end Yours Sincerely . In cases where you are on a first name basis with the recipient, you can then use a more friendly context specific greeting: kind regards, best wishes, all the best, etc.

I meant to be generalized so I didn't write the name of each child . I left it "Your child" so it is applicable for all mothers and save the hassle to write the name of more than 300 kids . And I will be able to have on card to be photocopied rather than have 300 cards to be printed with excat name of each child on the card .
My supervisor objected saying that it is a wrong and invalid to do so, If I want to use "sincerely your" I have to write the excat...

Re: Best regards, Kind regards, or Yours sincerely, - which is correct

Not much for the social graces, I see, Anon. First, it seems to have become a fad to end e-mails with "Regards". If everyone is sending "regards", then it seems fairly disengenous; surely one does not have "regards" for every single recipient of their e-mails. Personally I find it annoying to see "regards" at the end of everyone's e-mails. It reminds me of when lots of people were using the terms "my bad", "you go girl", etc. etc. If you don't mean it, why say it? Just put your name and company info if the recipient is not familiar with you. If they know, you why even put your name? They will see it in the e-mail header. It's e-mail, not a loving letter.

Re: Best regards, Kind regards, or Yours sincerely, - which is correct

To Anonymous who wrote the following:
"I think it boils down to present day - we are all becoming very lazy
with grammer and letter writing because we are in such a hurry to get
everything done both in business and in leisure. You only have to look
at the way children use the mobile phone text messages and that says it
all. Who is going to teach proper english (if there will be such a
thing in 30 years when we are shortening all the words in the sentence
for speed, how will today's educated (I choose the word loosley) be
able to teach English in the years ahead?" Proper English??? Firstly, you should spell "loosley" properly. May I ask , how exactly you define "proper English"? Did Chaucer, Shakespeare, Milton or Austen...

Re: Best regards, Kind regards, or Yours sincerely, - which is correct

What part do you want corrected?
