And why the author could not have simply written "school" instead of any of that phrase is also a mystery!

That's what I thought too but since it's from a well-written article, I thought it was
what native speakers say like "at the bottom of the ocean floor" and tried to learn
the exact meaning of the phrase.

Here's the original sentence.
The author recognizes that Columbine High School has always been an excellent educational place of learning.

I guess I should pick up 'a place of learning' instead.

Hi N2G,

Isn't that phrase a bit redundant? If it's educational, you have the chance to learn something. If you learn something, it's educational.

But I would agree that a museum is a place of learning.
