My dictionary gives two meanings to the word "far-sighted". I am citing the one related to the context I have given.

Far-sighted = In American English, far-sighted people cannot see things clearly that are close to them, and therefore need to wear glasses. The usual British expression is long-sighted.

My question is: am I near-sighted or long-sighted / far-sighted? I cannot see things clearly that are close my my eyes.

Re: eye sights

Dear heavens - I just realized I told you the exact opposite of what's correct.

NEAR-sighted is when you can't see far.

FAR-sighted is when you can't see near. Far-sighted is presbyoptia, and what we're talking about here.

EDIT AGAIN: Okay, apparently the "getting old and can't see stuff too close" is really not the same as far-sightedness. Please see this: http://www.allaboutvision.com/conditions/presbyopia.htm

Start by saying "eye sight" in the singular, not "sights."

You are becoming more near-sighted. I'm 42. It's happening to me too. My kid will thrust something in front of me and say "See Mommy" and after I move my head back about six inches, I can say "Yes, now I can see!"

Near-sigthedness has a fancy term: presbyopia. Presbys means "old people." I don't like to be thought of as "old" at my age, so I'm going to stick with "near-sighted"!

EDIT: This should be far-sighted, not near-sighted. Please see post at the end of the thread.

Re: eye sights

.
More naturally? For instance:

My eyesight is getting weaker every day.
