Either one. (one fish, three fish)  The fishmonger&amp;#39;s fish is / are fresh.  Plural is most likely. Singular might work if he&amp;#39;s holding up one fish. In a restaurant you might ask, &amp;quot;Is the fish fresh,&amp;quot; referring to their &amp;quot;supply&amp;quot; of fish, not necessarily the one you might order.  P/s:   He sells the fish are fresh. (correct?)  No. &amp;quot;fish&amp;quot; is both the direct object of the first clause and the subject of the second. The fish are fresh. The fishes are fresh.  The fishmonger&amp;#39;s fish is fresh. The fishmonger&amp;#39;s fish are fresh. The fishmonger&amp;#39;s fishes are fresh.  He sells fresh fishes.
