There are 10 kinds of people in this world:
those who know this is a binary joke,
and those who don't,
and those who know it's actually a tertiary joke.

I saw this on a t-shirt at the MIT (don't ask me to tell you what MIT is) Co-Op the other day, and thought it was nifty. It helps if you know about number systems with base 2 (binary), 3 (tertiary), ... base 10 (decimal), ... To that degree, it's an insider joke.

Re: Binary joke

There are 10 types of people in this world; those who understand binary and those who don't.

OK, here goes. Binary only uses the digits "1" and "0". Thus "1" in decimal (the numbers you are used to) is also "1" in binary. However, "2" in decimal is "10" in binary. So when he says 'There are only 10 types of people' he is using the "10" as a binary number, not a decimal number. Thats why there are only two types listed, he said there were only two types of people by using the binary equivalent of a decimal number. Note: decimal to binary 1=1 2=01 3=11 4=100 5=101 etc.

seriously

i need to find binary jokes for a school project :| and this is a gay joke. not funny at all. i hope the person who made it never smiles again! You can actually count with any base unit.
It only uses 0s and 1s and the number 10, in binary code, means 2. Bit hard to explain here briefly, you need to go and look at the link below if you are really interested. The joke is funny if you understand binary, and not if you don't, which is what the joke itself is saying. It's a sort of mathematical pun!

Re: Binary joke

Hello Nona:
