The reason it's called East Indian is because we are not Asians (Chinese, Japanese, Korean, etc.) and not Native Americans; also called Indians. THe more you hear it, the better you understand it. There have been some people I have spoken with and some do have a stronger accent. But I am sure there are cases where they are unable to understand us as much as we can not understand them.
