I think Encarta and Oxford use different systems of pronunciation: the j in Oxford means the y sound in Encarta.

There are some slight differences in the pronunciation of the vowel sound in the first syllable: some people rhyme it with "core", and some with "cure".

You mean 'pronounce' not spell.

'Spelling' - the sequence of letters used to write a word. So, for Europe, the spelling is E, U, R, O, P, E.
