I am trying to get rid of my accent too and I will try the next. Bring from the library a couple of audio books and the same books but in hard of soft copies. Meanwhile you listen you read at the same time, the idea is not just to understand what is in the book but to listen how the words and sentences are pronounce. I have been looking my self a phonetics audio book or something similar but I haven't find anything yet. hope this will work.

Re: How to change my accent?

Well, The solution is to listen enough to English ( listening English songs & trying to sing them, watching English videos, movies or emissions ) then you've to speak English like them. think for example that you're English or American, and if you are able to visit English countries, It will be very useful I wish you good luck

Re: How to change my accent?

LOL, she's not a member, she's an the author of that book. You might need an accent reduction course. Learn the sounds, learn how to connect words, learn to use a decent intonation, etc. It depends on the variety you want to learn though. For American English, I once read "American Accent Training" by Ann Cook. I found it vital for my English, learned a lot of things and I improved a lot. I can't say anything about British English or other dialects though. Good luck. :)

Re: How to change my accent?

When I was in Secondary 2, my history teacher was an Indian. I couldn't hear clearly what he was talking about during the lesson. His Indian accent was strong. However, about two weeks later, I was able to hear him clearly. So it is a matter of getting used to listening and talking to the people in the country you live in now.

Re: How to change my accent?

Hi,actually if you want to learn an accent you have to speak the language as often as you can.I mean talk to people that have that accent. If you want to be have an American accent then go to chatting, speak through pc to Americans.I think that would help.By the way im Nath,a student of a film school here in Asia.

Re: How to change my accent?

I think if you stay there long enough, you will one day speak like one of them.
