Yes, I agree that the pirated stuff are rampant in China. You can buy any kind of pirated famous band in China. However, there is a fact I need to confess here. After joining the WTO, Chinese government are trying hard to give a heavy hit to the smugglers.
I have no idea if piracy are popular in Eroupean countries at a certain times. I consider this phenominon is natural, which is a nessisary proceeding of society development. Nowadays, plenty of investors flood in China. They move the labour-manufacturing industries to the developing country. People in developing country know more about the outside world. They are desirous to use the sfuff with the sound brand....

Re: What do you think about piracy?

In some ways, companies have brought this on themselves. For years they've been swindling us out of our hard earned cash with extortionate prices on goods - especially CDs/DVDs and designer label clothes. I have no sympathy for them.
A problem now facing the UK government is tobacco smuggling. The government is losing around £2billion each year because of it. But, when you consider that the tax on a pack of 20 cigarrettes is £4.03 (roughly $8 US dollars), it's no surprise people are fed up of it and buy contraband!

Re: What do you think about piracy?

Where do you draw the line between the negative connotation of piracy and just pure Robin Hood effect of stealing from the rich to feed the poor?
It could just as well classify as piracy if a government were to unlawfuly jack UP the price of a particular item. HMMMN that kinda sounds like us in America and our gas/oil prices doesn't it??

Sometimes the little man is smarter than the government.

Now, correct me if I'm wrong.

Re: What do you think about piracy?

I think piracy is most rampant in China and India because these are developing countries with a large population. That means that people have access to technology, but very often cannot afford to buy original stuff.
If the original products were affordable, then people would doubtless boy them more. I guess cutting the advert costs would help reduce the price and increase the sales. But that's becoming a bit of a paradox, isn't it?

Hello,
So is Russia. And a lot of other countries, I am sure.
Until producers of legal CDs (and other merchandises) cut production prices, people will keep buying piracy ones. Because consumers simply don't want to overpay.

What do you think about piracy?

Mexico is full or piracy merchandise, you easily can find cd's, movies, software, clothes produced mainly in the country and sold in any street of the city and people usally buy it to don't spent much money but on the other hand China is flooding our country with piracy about original Mexican products like chili, Guadalupe Virgin images, our own flag for national holydays... and people are buying everything, what's your point of view?
