Hi, YoungCalifornian. My post wasn't addressed to you but to Chinese authorities suporters. As regards the lack of freedom of the press I agree with you.

>Well, the obvious follow-up question would be what exactly do you want the West to do? Start a war with China?

A War doesn't solve problems, it only creates new ones, but the West should take a clear and firm stance on the matter instead of pretending that everything is all right and doing business with China.

For over half a century, China had lived in the shadow of Meo who had brainwashed millions upon millions of youngsters by the little but powerful “red book”. Meo’s cultural revolution had poisoned the minds of the entire generation. The communist propaganda machine and the Red Guards movement eventually destroyed the country’s meager at the time. Meo’s red book was like a disease, slowly spreading the virus into every family and each fiber of social fabric in the Chinese culture. turning sons and daughters against parents, students putting teachers on trails and friends against friends. No one trusted anyone and no one dared speak a word for fears of retribution, not even to family members. Workers and farmers working in the party–controlled factories and fields were mostly uneducated villagers who were slowly re-educated by the party officers to accept the system where everyone received the same pay, same good ration and same treatment, that was only if he kept his thinking to himself. Meanwhile, the propaganda for the “Big Leap” movement had brought the party leader to his ultimate glory before his collapse. The Russian brand of government system had the old China poisoned for over 50 years. That’s was the China then. True, there were reports about vital organs being removed from executed prisoners for sales to the willing Westerners. It can be sold for as much as $100,000, each!. When this much money is at stake, I don’t think it makes a difference whether one is Chinese or American, or whether you believe in human rights. The reality is harsh and the bottom line is, people are willing to sell their conscience for a sum and would even kill for money, and those wealthily ill, they don’t care where the liver or kidney came from either. China is not the only country exporting organs. It’s sad that humanity can deteriorate to this level and in no way I condone this kind of animalistic practice. China has her problems as a developing country. But these problems are not unique only to China. I think freedom of speech is slowly being taken away and replaced by a politically correct system in the West. Has anyone heard any reference of another person being “fat” or “gay” lately?? But it’s okay to glorify pornography. You draw the picture!

Re: Forgotten Tibet

hi, it seems that there would be a political forum here, eh? I can just tell you what the anti-Chinese films propagandize is simply not true. Come to China and live in Tibet, then you can scrape more materials for making lies.

Re: Forgotten Tibet

YoungCalifornian

I find it humorous that citizens of countries with a state-controlled press are so critical of Western media coverage.

state-controlled press controlled bu goverment and work in private interests of goverment . "free" press controlled bu mediamagnat and worked in his own private interests. i can see a little difference - level of lies is equal

Re: Forgotten Tibet

Hi, YoungCalifornian. My post wasn't addressed to you
but to Chinese authorities suporters. As regards the lack of freedom of the
press I agree with you.

>Well, the obvious follow-up question would be what exactly do you want the West to do? Start a war with China?

A War doesn't solve problems, it only creates new ones, but the West should take a clear and firm stance on the matter instead of pretending that everything is all right and doing business with China.

Re: Forgotten Tibet

Dominik

Do you like the situation when countries deal with matters quietly without witnesses? Do you think that information from these countries prepared by their authorities will be objective? If there aren’t any other sources of information how you want to form your opinion about sb/sth?

I'm not sure why you seem bothered by my comment, Dominik. I thought it clear that I was criticizing the lack of freedom of the press that is prevalent in many countries (China and Russia being the two relevant examples). I fully support exposing oneself to news and media from around the globe in an effort to understand varying perspectives. If you feel that I wasn't being sensitive enough to people with limited sources of news, then I apologize. Nevertheless, the point remains that a news source censored by government is almost always going to be more unreliable than one which is not, and people with enough freedom to access this forum should understand that. It's hard for me to take Chinese criticism of Western media seriously when it is a fact that their government directly censors topics ranging from Tibet to Tiananmen Square. I'm not saying that Western media isn't biased or unadultered, but any thinking person would do better to trust sources that are unafraid to present relevant news which is critical of themselves and their society.

BTW: You say a lot about the West but the West doesn’t worry too much about Tibet. The most important for it is Money and business. The West doesn’t want to put himself at risk for Tibetans. It is said but true.

Well, the obvious follow-up question would be what exactly do you want the West to do? Start a war with China? Apply more pressure to the Chinese goverment? China has long demonstrated its belief that the "internal affairs" of any one country should be of no concern to anyone else. It does not take kindly to what it preceives as foreign meddling. Just look at the response to the protests of the Olympic Torch. Ironically, that same "money and business" that you seem to vilify may be what ultimately saves China. There's no question that freedoms and the standard of living in China have greatly improved as it has adopted more and more free market policies. I hope and believe that as China becomes more prosperous its people will begin to demand a direct say in the government. Democracy in China should, in time, facilitate honest discussions about its past.
