What the goverment does is to make harsh punishmenst to those people who are againt them, if they don't do that, there are more people will go againt the goverment. The goverment probably will collapse.

Which model do you think is right? Where would you like to live as a simply citizen?

People work in the interests of the government. The government is always right and people have to be blindly obedient. If they are not they are punished. The government doesnât have to meet citizensâ needs because they donât have the right to vote, only citizens have to meet the governmentâs needs.

The government works in the interests of citizens. The government listens to the citizens and tries to meet their needs. If the government doesnât meet citizensâ needs it simply wonât be chosen by the citizens in next elections.

Does it mean that all the countries should boycott Olympic game? Perhaps itcould be placed in a nw thread line about the frredoms of press. As for me I don't like most of the reporters as they are trying to do anything to find some hot items... still afterwards they would insist that they hadn't done anything wrong. (Remember princess Diana's death?)

Still I am sure that Olympic boycott will do only harm to the world and the freedom.

I forgot to mention that a cameraman had also been arrested. All the arrested people have now been released. The reporter feigned sickness successfully and said she needed medication. She put on such a credible act that the Chinese released her and verybody else because, as she puts it, "the last thing the Chinese authorities want is a dead foreign journalist."

The construction worker she was doing a programme about had taken her to his home, which is situated in an area that is off limits for foreigners. You can't travel freely in China. None of those involved knew that the worker lived in a restricted area.

A Finnish television reporter was arrested in China this morning. She had been interviewing a Chinese construction worker who had worked in Beijing. The construction worker, a relative of his and a translator have also been arrested. The Chinese authorities are demanding a huge fine from the reporter, who contends she has done nothing wrong. Even the programme she has prepared is not unfavourable for China. Her company has advised her not to pay and not to give up her material.

This is the second time a Finnish television reporter has been arrested in China recently. The previous incident occurred two months ago.

Why does not somebody finally move this thread to the Controversial section, where it would be under supervision of the moderators? There are threads in Controversial Section which appear like lullabies in comparison with this thread!

I don't feel very comfortable when reading the recent messages in this thread. I don't think they are at the borders of politeness, I think they already crossed the line!!!

1) Why not? Do yo think the press can print everything even though something affects the national security issues? You are not that naive, are you?

2)The point was we were talking the Chinese goverment. If you need to undestand more, go back to what you Lawyee was written.

3)I really don't what you mean that Chinese goverment educate people with those sites. I think it is really stupid that you said that.

4)No. I wasn't. On the other hand, I think you are being brainwashed feeding by those Western media.

5) I've said that Chinese goverment are not ready for the people to cherish those rights. The time is not right for the people. I support the goverment should punish the journalists who make riots.

Funny how sites or press that talk about Chinese government are authorized, yet porno sites, popup ads, etc. are not. Chinese government indeed thinks people will be educated with those sites instead of stuff that criticize the governmental system.

I know many states (thank God) which do not censure media and nevertheless manage not to "collapse". In my country the Constitution expressly prohibits censure of media and still the state survives I presume that you were taught that censure is necessary

It is true that the Bush administration is guilty of murder and torture but I still fail to see the connection. How does that justify killing innocent people in China? I agree that killing is essential for the Chinese elite to maintain power, but I disagree with you on one point: such a country does not deserve to exist. I also want the Olympics to take place because a complete boycott is inconceivable, and a partial boycott would only benefit the Chinese regime: Chinese athletes would win more medals. Moreover, the correspondents coming to the Olympics can tell the world more about the atrocities taking place in China.

There are no reliable statistics about the number of prisoners in China. In other words you can bet anything you want to about such figures. There are official and unofficial statistics regarding executing innocent people in China. It's been a long time since anyone was executed in Finland; that happened in the 1940s when martial law was in force during the Second World War.

I don't think China is ready for democracy. But I think eventually they will.

Why death peanlty bother you? If death peanlty is good reason to help the Chinese govement lower crime rate and other society porblems, what is your problem?

Let's go back to the boycott . I really don't care other coutries boycott the Olympics, as long as the USA does't do that. I'm pretty sure President Bush will attend the Olympic.

I hope the French pesident, Nicholas Sarzokaly, doesn't attend the Olympic because he is the one who introduced the idea to boycott the Olympic.
