People work in the interests of
the government. The government is always right and people have to be blindly

Perhaps itcould be placed in a nw thread line about the frredoms of press. As for me I don't like most of the reporters as they are trying to do anything to find some hot items... still afterwards they would insist that they hadn't done anything wrong. She had been interviewing a Chinese construction worker who had worked in Beijing. The construction worker, a relative of his and a translator have also been arrested. The Chinese authorities are demanding a huge fine from the reporter, who contends she has done nothing wrong. Even the programme she has prepared is not unfavourable for China. Her company has advised her not to pay and not to give up her material.

This is the second time a Finnish television reporter has been arrested in China recently. Chinese government indeed thinks people will be educated with those sites instead of stuff that criticize the governmental system.

BW2/3

I'm afraid the goverment will be in trouble and the people will suffer if they don't censure. I guess some people are against the goverment propably is a good thing.

You're being brainwashed to think this way.

I really hope one day that the goverment will give people those basic rights.

Imagine if the goverment let these jounralists and whoever they critize and does not censure them, what the country will have become? My instance reaction is 'collapse'. In my opinion, China has to take one step at a time to become more transparancy goverment.

I bet if you compare the percentage of Chinese prisoners of Chinese population to your country, Chinese rate is lower than your country.

I know many states (thank God) which do not censure media and nevertheless manage not to "collapse". In my country the Constitution expressly prohibits censure of media and still the state survives I presume that you were taught that censure is necessary

If there were hundred journalists imprisoned, it doesn't matter if the country has two hundred or billion citizens. There are still hundred lives which are threatened by the state power. Imagine you were one of them. Would you mind if you were in a big country or a small one? You would still be in jail!!! I have a proposal: go and visit a prison that is nearby and after staying there for an hour, think about the importance of "rate of imprisoned people".

Where I live, the constitution guarantees that freedom of press. Of course, if something deals with national issue, you cannot print, probably you need a court order.

You miss the point. We are talking about Chinese goverment. I cannot imagine if the goverment let journalists print whatever they want, I imagine there will be bad things happened.

No, I hate censure. What I think in this case is that in China it is necessary. I'm afraid the goverment will be in trouble and the people will suffer if they don't censure. I guess some people are against the goverment propably is a good thing.

You know, I don't mind jouralist are againt the goverment. For better or worse, if there is no conflict then there is no progress.

I really hope one day that the goverment will give people those basic rights.

I have a proposal: go and visit a prison that is nearby and after staying there for an hour, think about the importance of "rate of imprisoned people

Sorry, I don't catch what you said above.

Re: Olympic boycott?

Cool Breeze

BW2/3

Don't tell me you've never read anything that Bush administration tourture stories. If not, I'd be very disappointed at you. What I brought up President Bush here is because his adminstration did torture on bad people for national security issue. Referring what you have written, have you ever thought about Chinese national security issues and STABILITY?

Imagine if the goverment let these jounralists and whoever they critize and does not censure them, what the country will have become? My instance reaction is 'collapse'. In my opinion, China has to take one step at a time to become more transparancy goverment.

I bet if you compare the percentage of Chinese prisoners of Chinese population to your country, Chinese rate is lower than your country.

It is true that the Bush administration is guilty of murder and torture but I still fail to see the connection. How does that justify killing innocent people in China? I agree that killing is essential for the Chinese elite to maintain power, but I disagree with you on one point: such a country does not deserve to exist. I also want the Olympics to take place because a complete boycott is inconceivable, and a partial boycott would only benefit the Chinese regime: Chinese athletes would win more medals. Moreover, the correspondents coming to the Olympics can tell the world more about the atrocities taking place in China.

You can read an Amnesty International report about the death penalty in China here.

There are no reliable statistics about the number of prisoners in China. In other words you can bet anything you want to about such figures. There are official and unofficial statistics regarding executing innocent people in China. It's been a long time since anyone was executed in Finland; that happened in the 1940s when martial law was in force during the Second World War.

CB

Ok, you don't see the connection, let me englight you. You have said that Chinese goverment torture people, so does Bush adminsitration. Why did they do that? For national security issue. I really don't catch what you said that Chinese goverment killed innocent people. What kind the innocent people are you talking about? The people are againt the goverment?

You described the eliste very bad. They are not bad people.

LET ME ASK YOU IF THE PEOPLE DONT AGAINST THE GOVERMENT, DO YOU THINK THE GOVERMENT WILL KILL THEM? What the goverment does is to make harsh punishmenst to those people who are againt them, if they don't do that, there are more people will go againt the goverment. The goverment probably will collapse.

I don't think China is ready for democracy. But I think eventually they will.

Why death peanlty bother you? If death peanlty is good reason to help the Chinese govement lower crime rate and other society porblems, what is your problem?

Let's go back to the boycott . I really don't care other coutries boycott the Olympics, as long as the USA does't do that. I'm pretty sure President Bush will attend the Olympic.

I hope the French pesident, Nicholas Sarzokaly, doesn't attend the Olympic because he is the one who introduced the idea to boycott the Olympic.
