Does 'save one's skin' mean 'save one's life'? Yes.
Is it originated from the history of American Indians' scalping white people? I don't know the origin, but I very much doubt that it comes from that.
Perhaps it originates from people having Botox injections? ha-ha!
Best wishes, Clive

save one's skin

Does 'save one's skin' mean 'save one's life'?
