I talked about this with Cool Breeze in some thread, I think. In brief, it's not that I don't read or like non-natives posts, it's just that natives' posts are the ones I trust the most and I feel I can rely on. That's why I don't look for the proficient-symbol, but just for natives. A thread with no natives is not really a good thread, that's what I think. How can you be sure what's good and what's not in that thread?

I'm pretty sure I feel this way because I only accept descriptive grammar, so I never ask what's correct, I always ask what sounds good. That's probably what always makes me in need of "natives".

Re: Becoming a moderator

Kooyeen wrote:

Grammar Geek wrote:

Yes, they usually help, but everyone can help here, actually. And they are not so trusted, after all. If they were really trusted, they would have, say, the key to the room where there are the servers... lol Well, I just remembered that they can send PMs and they have an avatar. Nothing more than that, I guess. So the only cool thing about being a TU could be the fact of having an avatar... lol. We can already send PMs to mods, admins, TUs, if we need something.

PS: I was forgetting... that said, if someone wants to become a TU, there's no way to become one, I think.
In the current system, the "guru" level is reached, as Francesca has explained, at 5,000 posts. Someone could post nothing but questions, and after 5,000 posts, will have the "guru" level.

In another forum I go to, I am a "senior member" based only on my post count, and not at all on the quality of my responses. It's the same here. I could find 5,000 threads and post "Sounds good" at the end of each one and become a "guru." (Although I beg you NOT to follow that course of action.)

That is why you should be careful in making assumptions about the quality of the resopnse or the knowledge of the poster based solely on post count. Look for the "proficient speaker" check mark that will tell you that this person has been deemed by the administrators to have a solid grasp of English and (although we all make mistakes) far more likely to give you good guidance.
