Alternatively, you could use p.p. or per pro., which = 'per procurationem'. (This means 'by/through the agency of'.)

In this instance, you would sign it as follows:

       Yours sincerely

             p.p. Cece

       Dr X. Smith

Dr. Smith may want this to be done in a particular way. It would be good to find out.

Sometimes, people do this:

XS:ce

(or)

XS/ce

(XS would be Dr. Smith's initials; ce would be yours.)
