I would like to apply for a position of Project Manager / Multimedia Developer (reference no. 00000) as advertised on XYZâs on-line vacancy bulletin.

I first became interested in multimedia development and web-based applications twelve years ago. Since 2001, I am working as a project manager and developer in a leading internet agency in my country. As of March 2004, I am in charge for communication, management and execution of all online activities of ABC_CORPORATION in COUNTRY_NAME. The list of my responsibilities includes communication with the HQ office and local companies, website design, content development and update, adaptation of various online/ offline campaigns and presentations, research and invention of new channels for communication with target audience. During my practice I have developed a vast range of skills, for example: analysing complex numerical and verbal information, clear, concise writing for different contexts, working enthusiastically and productively under pressure, dealing professionally with a wide range of people, working in a variety of teams and on my own initiative, overcoming obstacles. I am comfortable in sourcing and handling data electronically. Making movies like the Flash presentation I've attached as a sample of my work is such an enjoyable experience, because I know how to turn content requirements into a multimedia concept by selecting the most appropriate choice of multimedia. I have a knack of the latest technologies which help me to evaluate rapidly project essentials, determine terms and deadlines, execute in full the project.

As you can see on my CV I lead a busy life through my daily responsibilities and various business activities, which has meant that I have very quickly learnt the importance of time management. I have always handed my work in on time and never missed a deadline. My communication skills have greatly developed through my work experience with ABC_CORPORATION and its markets in Central and Eastern Europe.

For the period of my management and fulfillment of the ABC_CORPORATION on-line activities, the ABC_CORPORATION recognizes COUNTRY_NAME as the fastest growing market in terms of Internet presence. My dedication to work and pursuit for perfection convinced ABC_CORPORATION to choose COUNTRY_NAME as a pilot market for several web-based projects and desktop applications. As of 2007 I am the person responsible for terms negotiation, concept development, execution and language adaptation of ABC_CORPORATION websites in COUNTRY_1, COUNTRY_2, COUNTRY_3, and COUNTRY_4.

The above sentense is a very fascinating one but the position I would like to apply for, is actually a project manager with ability to develop simple videos and animations.

It's probably just semantics. For me, a cover letter says why I am the the best choice for this position, based on my experience and skills, while a motivation letter says why I want the position. It's all about me and my thoughts, not the company and how I can benefit it.

Start as you've started - just say what is inside of you that makes you want to do this. Refer to the flash movie - saying something like (although use your own words and feelings of course!) "Making movies like the Flash presentation I've attached as a sample of my work is such an enjoyable experience, because I know I have a knack for the technology and it lets me join my creative side to my technical side" -- in other words, refer to the fact that it's there as a sample of the things you enjoy and are good at.

In application procedure it is stated that a Letter of Motivation is required, but I have started it with "I would like to apply for a position...". Is it wrong? Somewhere here I've read that Letter of Motivation and Cover Letter are identhical in content. Or maybe I'm wrong?

Is this a cover letter (I would like to apply for...) or a motivation letter (The reason I want to be a developer is...)?

Certainly in whatever letter you develop, you should mention the movie.

You can follow whichever format you want for a formal letter.

Hello everyone,

First of all, thank you to all the people who are supporting this website and the posts of the Forum Gurus, who helped me to understand the essentials of writing a letter of motivation.

I'm based in EU and I'm applying for a job as a multimedia developer. It is required to provide one example of my multimedia production. I plan to submit a flash movie which I have developed recently.

My questions are:

1. Should I mention this example in my motivation letter supplying more details about it or to attach the file with no extra explanations? Just to note that the application is online (no paper copies of the CV and LoM).

2. Should I put my name, address and telephone number at the top right corner of the LoM?

Looking forward to your replies.

P.S.: Once I have a draft of my Motivation letter I will post it here.
