I found something about official letters. Is that a kind of letter written by citizens in order to discuss something about election, public benifits that sort of things with the government? Do people usually write to the officials in your country? Does that help enhance government's work? What other things would be carried by an official letter besides elections? The reason is that you wouldn't write a cover letter to a friend or relative. You would only write a cover letter to a businesss where you wanted to be employed. And when you wrote that letter, you would use formal English. For example, when writing to friends, I usually skip all the inside address stuff. Not so when writing a cover letter. I hope this helps. If you need more information, don't hesitate to ask. MountainHiker

Is cover letter a kind of business letter?

Hi, I'm trying to do a paper on business letter writing. And I've found some general information about the rules and the layout of "business letters". While I was doing the research, I found a lot of passages talking about the letters for job hunting. I'm not sure whether I could put these kinds of letters under the topic of "business letter writing" or rather they belong to personal letters. Your ideas will help me a lot. Thank you for your attention.
