Please explain to me what the following lines mean as simple as possible, it is taken from a catalogue for an instrument (Scintillation System)

"The robust rack sample changer will accommodate either 336 standard vials or 448 miniature vials (depending upon the version)"

The Instrument counts per minute (cpm). The standard quench monitor is the IC#. Data can be normalized and blanks and\or backgrounds can be subtracted.Percent of reference can be calculated.

Hahah, Painkiller, a lot of this is difficult for a native speaker to understand, because it's using some technical jargon that's only going to be understood by a person who works in that field.

This one I can explain. It's saying that the large (robust) sample changer can hold either 334 regular sized vials, or 448 smaller sized vials, depending upon which version of their machine you buy. (One version holds regular sized vials, the other version holds smaller (minature) sized vials.)

I'm a little lost on 'standard quench monitor'. To 'quench' is to cool down rapidly. As near as I can tell, it's a specific type of monitor used in some scientific instruments. I think quenching refers to something in the mechanism used to display information on the monitor screen.

The rest of the sentence is describing functions that the machine has. Data can be normalized (results set to zero), blanks (zero values) and background (data that is background data, or data not actually part of the experiment, but accidentally picked up (i.e. background noise in a recording) can be subtracted (removed) from the results, and the machine can also calculate the percentage of reference. I can't explain exactly what that means, since I don't know enough about the topic/area, but it's basically just another mathimatical function the machine is capable of performing, based on the data it collects.

The machine is used to measure ionized radiation (don't ask me what that means), and display the data from the measurements in various ways.

Hope that helps. Maybe we've got a scientist on board who could go into details about the specific meanings, but I think that should give you the general idea.
