For my 12U English course I have to write a 1500 word comparison essay about two gothic novels. The two novels I choose in particular are The Monk, by Lewis, and Frankenstein, by Shelley. I'm asking for a step in the right direction. What are the main elements for gothic novels that I can use to compare these two works of fiction? I know anti-Catholicism is a prominent theme in both books, but what else should I focus my essay on?
