Hi,

There are many styles for writing references, so there may be many correct answers. Here's mine.

I was taught that, in an edited book, you write the name of the author of the chapter, then the year. Next, "In:" , the name of the editor of the book followed by "(Ed.)", the title of the book, the publisher and - finally and optional - the number of the pages.

So, if John Doe were the author of the chapter "French interviews Paglia" (I'm making up both the name of the author of the chapter and the title of the chapter), and the chapter were part of the book "Screen Violence", that would be:

Doe, J. (1996) French interviews Paglia. In: French, K. (Ed.) Screen Violence. London: Bloomsbury, pp. 35-51.

As for the citation within the text, it would be something like: As Doe (1996) argues, ...

I didn't know where to post this thread but this seemed like the most logical board.

I'm currently writing an essay for university but have a slight problem with one of my refrences. The source comes from a book called Screen Violence which is a collection of essays, edited by Karl Frence. The piece that I am referencng from is an 'Interview with Karl French- June 1996' with Camille Paglia (the interview is conducted by French, questioning Paglia) and covers pages 35-51. How do you recomend I refernece this? Do I reference French of Paglia?

I'm so confused! Any help would be greatly appreciated!
