Hi YLThere is an idiom "split your sides laughing", so the word 'sides' would be an obvious choice for the first blank.But nothing obvious comes to my mind for the second blank. Maybe just "a joke a minute"?

I think it is, yes. But it's also an idiom. We can't replace "flat" here with another adverb. We can say "He fell flat on his face" or "He fell clumsily" but we do not say "The joke fell clumsily."
