Hi, I had a chat with an American a few days, and in his conversation, his "r" sound was so strong even in "car". In British English, if I am right, "r" sound isn't as strong as American like in saying "car" or "player", the "r" sound in like "car" is often omitted. Am I right? Thanks in advance

'Think' belongs to all contexts; so it's not necessarily more formal than 'figure': "Think it's gonna rain?" "Yup." 'Figure' belongs mostly to conversational or conversation-like contexts. It's much more frequent in American than British English. (I'm not sure about Australian, etc.) MrP
