In Vowels^x, Grammar^x

Sir, IT was written in a English grammar book There is no word in English that has not a vowel in it. but the words like "by" ,"my" do not have vowel. Please explain it. Thanks.

Hi, I want to write, "I have a unique animal". I believe the grammar rule is "an before a vowel". So is it correct to write "I have an unique animal"? That sounds funny to me. Thanks for your help, Beanie

Sorry about that, I just got it: In the phrase: 'Wrought' is not pronounced exactly like 'rot', which has a shorter vowel. The vowel should sound much more like that in 'bought' or 'sought'. Does the term "shorter vowel" refer to 'Wrought' or 'rot'?
