No. It's the other way around. Phrasal verbs are usually more informal. by half and to half are good. Not i n half . cut in half, but cut down by/to half. CJ

Sorry, I didn't read very carefully. You want another phrasal verb that means "to tide over." "That should keep you" isn't a phrasal verb, but it works. That should keep you until the check comes.
