Re: Punctuation within quotes?
These punctuation marks (the British call them inverted commas) come in two forms, double and single. The double quotation marks (opening “ and closing ”) are used to enclose the words of a direct quotation: She said, “I’ll never see you again.” (They are never used in indirect quotation: She...

Re: Quotations, commas, and capitalization
Sorry - I had a very small window and got mixed up. Yes, I meant Option 1.I don't know where this idea about the colon being American English came from. I never use a colon to introduce a simple quote.

Re: Comma after i.e. and/or eg.?
JaCKo__007 wrote: A coma question! I've found that American based writers use commas after 'i.e.', but what of it in British English and does it then apply to eg. as well? Does a comma go after i.e. or e.g.? Both abbreviations i.e. and e.g. are preceded by a mark of punctuation, usually a...

Re: Usage of a comma before 'and' (Guest: Tharabg)
Hello Anon. Please see the post above yours, which mentions the serial (sometimes called Oxford) comma. It is optional, but consistency is key. It's not correct to say that American English always puts it there - see the AP Stylebook, for example.
