I interviewed a german student who has come to England to improve her english in order to be able to get a job back home. She is a very quick learner, very keen to participate and use newly learned vocab, though not particularly keen on listening exercises. In her written work she has a tendency to use a lot of uneeded language- almost over extending her point. She has difficulty with using the correct tenses. she occasionally misses determiners and personal pronouns but not very often. There is also a lot of formal lexis- furthermore, usage, moreover. I have my CELTA Course interview coming up, can anyone advise what to expect? I also have to do a 5 minute lesson on a subject area of my choice - how should I approach this? I train colleagues on data protection at work, should I do a session on this or should I teach some English Grammer? What are they looking for? I'm suspecting that there will only be one course place for every 4/5 applicants and I don't want to fail, any advice will be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks

Look at the exchange below and the labels on the right A. Would you like to come to the cinema tonight? INVITING B. Yes, I'd love to. ACCEPTING AN INVITATION We call these labels (e.g. 'Inviting' etc.) FUNCTIONS. It is another way of categorising language, this time thinking more about what the language is actually doing. Look at the dialogue below and label the function of each utterance. Put your answers in the boxes on the right. *

  A: Hey Bob. *

Attracting attention

  B: Yeah? *

A: Help me with this case, could you?.. *

Choose a center which has an experienced team of trainers. I would advise against taking a course in a new center or in one that only offers courses on an occasional basis using "imported" trainers. Courses in new centers always have teething troubles, as do courses run by trainers who are not used to working with each other. For example, less experienced trainers tend to be overly critical and may not be adept at giving you the kind of specific advice which you need. I'm looking at doing an intensive 4 week celta course. I've read up on them online and everyone seems to say how stressful they are! I have done a degree etc, but i was just wondering are people making them out to be worse than they are? My friend has done one and says it was fine. I have a language A level so am ok on grammar and stuff. Is there anything you can do before hand to ease the pressure a bit? Does anyone regret doing theirs? I'm just a bit concerned! Cheers.

How long to get on to a CELTA?

Hello everybody I was hoping for some advice. I want to do a TEFL course, so I've applied for a CELTA in Prague, at International House. I want to do it ASAP. So I've applied for the February course (two days ago) - was it too late to apply? (I'm assuming that my application tasks haven't let me down!) I applied on Saturday, but I'm trying to make plans for February/March. Just wondered if anybody had any advice about timescales for applications? All help is appreciated. There is not yet an entirely proven yes or no answer to this mind blowing question, that is why in this essay I cannot possible answer if God exists or not. Instead I will try my best to put forward some of the arguments arguing both for and against the existents of God. I will try to write this essay from agnostic point of view. I will also try to put forward some opinions and views of my own. But however hard I try to cover even a fraction of this subject, it is almost impossible to even come close to one answer to this question. If you don't mind my saying so, I wonder if the point of this test is to assess what you, personally, can do.
Do you really want your instructors to think that your teaching and grammar skills are better than they really are? PerhaPs that means they won't give you the help that you need.
As I said, I don't mean to offend you.
