I have indicated the few outright corrections I could find in bold. Because you have chosen to present your information in sentence fragments, it is very difficult to analyze or make consistent any grammar present. If you continue to get complaints, I would suggest that you try casting it in paragraphs ( "I was a sales consultant for Oracle Bl solutions, using demonstrations, prototyping, proofs of concept and presentations prepared for both potential and existing customers. I also designed customer business needs analyses and matched them to solutions, conducted internal sales team training, and had some involvement in marketing.")

Your resume

The summary section is a rather odd mix of different types of information. It's a waste of space to summarise information that is found elsewhere in the CV, just write a brief paragraph on your aims and personal qualities etc, and this section is often entitled 'Personal Profile' or something similar. I would include your scholarship information in the education section.

Hi,

attracting attention is of course your main aim but you should do this without backfiring:-) There are many diverse ways how to attract attention. In my opinion, you had chosen not the best one but of course this is only my opinion.

They don't need the full description of your course. This should stay in the CV, not in the covering letter. You can refer to the course and show how the course has improved your skills as you did below. I would recommend to drop the first part of the second paragraph become this part leads to nowhere.

Proposal:

Following my strong interests and deducation I recently specialised (BrE) in economics and languages. To ensure the development of my knowledge, I attended a special program of the Commercial College at the Berufskolleg Neuss which focused on European Business, whereas the economical (according to my book and google) courses were completely in English.

Furthermore, after the first year concentration on theory, I've accomplished a work placement by the finance company LBS which had improved my knowledge in finance and sharpened my ability to work with clients. It was followed by an other work placement in Eastbourne, England in order to improve my English skills. At the Association fo Charity Shops I had the opportunity to gain experience within many of the departments and to work in English which has always appealed to me.

My further work placement at the advertising agency BBDO enabled me to experience work under pressure and with full responsibility.

Sorry, but I'm not really sure what I am writing about. It has something to do with your application

I am a 25 year old German Sociologist currently working at the X at Y. I am writing to you to apply for the Doctoral Program in Sociology at the Center X at the Graduate School for X at the University X starting in September 2007.

My interest in the empirical social sciences was well founded during my studies of Sociology and Political Sciences at the University of X from 2001 till 2006. While working as a student assistant at X (2004-2006) on an empirical test of the X Theory I enjoyed the challenge to work with empirical data for theory testing. At this time I became awake that my long term career plan is to become a scientist in the field of X research. A first important step towards that goal was obtaining an award from the âXâ in December 2005. They funded me for 13 month to work on an expertise about the âXâ wherein I compared and evaluated the measurement of further education in four different German surveys. Since this was a part time project I was able to spend three month (May to July 2006) at the Marketing Department at X working as a research assistant on the X Programme. This gave me the opportunity to gather more work experience with large data sets and to improve my English as well in written and spoken in an international environment.

Since January 2007 I am now working as a researcher at X in the X Centre on a project which aims to enhance the quality of the X. Within that project it comes apparent to me that the use of appropriate methods for the development of a survey instrument is crucial to get reliable and valid data, exceedingly in the cross-national comparison. Therefore my current goal is to start the conferral of a doctorate on survey methodology for cross-national studies whereas my doctoral thesis should be related to a topic dealing with establishment of comparability of data in cross-national surveys.

Your Doctoral Program at the University of X interests me greatly because I expect to obtain the solid education in the fields of empirical and quantitative methods which I need to be successful in obtaining a Doctorâs degree on a methodological topic of cross-national survey research. Furthermore I appreciate that the training in empirical and quantitative methods at your Graduate School is combined with their application to business, economics, and the social sciences. Moreover, notwithstanding the decision for one study field, in my case i.e. Sociology, the exchange across the different disciplines is fostered amongst other things through attending to a seminar in a neighbouring field and through the contact to other Graduate School students who specialise in these other disciplines. Another reason why Iâm interested in becoming one of your Graduate School students is the excellent and international orientated research environment. Both, the Social Sciences faculty and the cooperating centres are internationally well renowned and house experts in their fields. This and to study in an English speaking environment would give me great support while working on my doctoral thesis and provide me with skills which are necessary to compete internationally successful as a survey researcher.

So, if Iâm successful in applying for a place at your Program at the Graduate School, I would like to deepen my knowledge especially of survey methodology and quantitative methods. Question about writing an English CV

I am French, leaving in the US and need to prepare a CV and a letter of motivation for a position in the UK. In reading many posts on this (neat) forum, I noticed that there are many differences in the format of CVs for each country and I would like to make sure that what I read seems appropriate. I'd appreciate benefiting from any input the "experts" may have in this exercise.

CV:
It seems like it is common to enter personal information at the beginning of the CV, such as date of birth, nationality, marital status etc. Is this correct?
I read that contact information (email, address, phone number) should always be at the end of the CV. True/False?
If anyone has experience in the redaction of CVs in both countries I would greatly appreciate any input.

Letter of motivation:
Again there seems to be minor differences which ..... can make a difference. As an example we (US) punctuate "Dear Sir;" and it seems UK correct typing would be "Dear Sir,". The content itselfl is pretty much "universal" and very well detailed in many other posts.
Are there any specifics in regards to punctuation, paragraph spacing, ending formulas (instead of the brief "Sincerely," we use here) that should be used to taylor both of these documents so it sort of proves that, at least, an effort has been made to customize the letter to the recipient?

Go through and check your spellings as you have quite a few errors that are probably typos, for example, 'form' instead of 'from'. The CV is a bit 'blah' just not very interesting - there is nothing here to make you stand out. Instead of just listing duties try to think about the qualities an employer wants and how you can prove that you have them. Think about selling your abilities. Advertising/marketing is very difficult to get into with a great deal of competition for entry level jobs - you have to make your CV sit up and bite them so it stands out from the other hundreds they will receive. Make sure you tailor it more for advertising. At the moment your only mention of advertising is a couple of words under interests. It needs to shine through as your future career. Talk about your career intentions - why advertising, what can you offer an advertising company. How can your photography and design experience help? Make the most of any work or college experience that is relevant to advertising and minimise any detail about the rest.
