Re: Correct order of professional titles after name

Hi,

I have a BSC (hons) degree and a SAC Dip, the degree was first then the diploma but I am in the process of joining goverening bodies for my profession. I am wondering what order do i need to write these titles in and also do i use the titles when filling in forms such as a passport or job application or do i just use them when writing letters. I am confused and cannot find any where online that provides the information.

The principle of 'lowest first, highest last' was suggested earlier in this thread.

I am currently renewing my passport, and I can tell you that, at least in Canada, educational information is not asked for.

For a job application, in my experience, educational qualifications are dealt with on one's resume/CV.

Generally speaking, people don't seem to list such things after their name when writing letters, with the occasional exceptuion of a doctorate. I guess it woud ultimately depend on what type of letter you are writing, and to whom.

Again generally speaking, such things are more commonly mentioned if you work in an academic setting.

motivation letter suggestions

Hello Forum Members,


I was very amazed when I found this page. I think it is a great idea and I thank all the people contributing.
Unfortunately I have yet another motivation letter and I dont have any native speakers around i could bother.


I tried to correct it already myself, hope its not too crude
I think I have more or less an idea what I want to say, but Id be also very grateful for comments.

A second question is concerning the CV i couldnt find any threeds for that. Maybe someone knows a link with formating examples for CV in science.

With this Email I would like to introduce my application for an external Masterâs-Project in your lab.
I am currently in the last year of my studies within the MSc / PhD-Program Molecular Biology of the âGöttingen Centre for Molecular Biosciences (GZMB) at the University of Göttingen. The Masters-courses will finish this year in August with the final exams and are followed by a Masterâs thesis based on a six-month project of scientific research starting in October.


Beginning of this May I had the opportunity to visit the Weizmann Institute of Science in the course of an introductory visit. Our trip was part of the initiation of a cooperation between the Feinberg Graduate School and the Molecular Biology Program in Göttingen. Being very interested in your country I had the strong desire to conduct an external Masterâs-Project in Israel already before this visit. My motivation was further increased by the wonderful impression the Weizmann Institute of Science and the whole trip had on us. For me the external Master would be a fascinating combination of science and learning about Israel in all its different aspects directly and beyond what we see in the daily news.

In preparation of the visit I was examining the Web page of your Institute and the key words âEvolutionâ and âEnzyme Mechanismâ immediately caught my attention. For me Evolution has always been the most fascinating concept of biology and maybe even life itself. The discussion of patterns and phenomena under its premises is one of the most interesting intellectual challenges in science. Unfortunately I did not meet opportunities to actually work on topics combining biochemistry and evolution. Therefore I was very excited learning about your group and my interest was further strengthened by a short introduction I got during the âLife Science Open Dayâ from Dr. YY and a recommendation from Prof. ZZ, whom we met during our trip. Interestingly I encountered the class of Terpene Synthases during my work at the Max-Planck Institute in Jena. Of this interesting class of enzymes many show broad promiscuous function and shift of products even between closely related species. Those activities have most likely evolved in an interesting co-evolution between plant, herbivore and the enemies of the herbivore. Taking all this together I would be more than motivated and very thankful to able to join your group for conducting my Masterâs-project.

I bring a very strong background in molecular biology and biochemistry and have experience in working independently. Born in Hamburg I started my career at the University of Jena were I studied Molecular Biology / Biochemistry for six semesters. Continuing In the field I joined the highly selective international MSc / PhD-Program in Göttingen, which is conducted by the University, the Max-Planck-Institutes of Experimental Medicine and Biophysical Chemistry as well as the German Primate Centre. During my studies in Göttingen I followed my interest in theoretical, structural and computational related topics by choosing projects in the fields of NMR and 3D reconstruction based on single particle electron cryo-microscopy.

For the period of the Masterâs-project I will receive funding from third parties as the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) or the Program in Göttingen, therefore I would not require any funding from your Group or the Feinberg Graduate School.

I enclosed a short CV with two reference-addresses, I would be happy to provide further documents such as degrees and letters of recommendation on demand.

Iâm a (MK) PhD student, at the University 1, department 1. With this letter I would like to apply for PhD scholarship for foreign students.

I came here last year, as a result of collaboration between the Faculty 1, and Faculty 2, working in a project (project name). The aim of the project is developing and controlling orthoses for upper and lower limbs for elderly people, and people with neuromuscular disease. In this way the quality of their life and the social cost of these disabilities will be reduced. This orthoses can also be used in rehabilitation purposes. During my stay here, I meet a wonderful people, professors and colleges, who help me to accommodate here and to feel like home. I was also very satisfied with the working conditions here, and with the result that we accomplished on this project.

I have always been interested in research in bioengineering, especially if it is closely related with helping people. During my BSc studies I was involved in several project connected with bioengineering. But in my country, unfortunately, there is a very small chance to work in that field. The chance that I got here was like a dream that becomes true. Encouraged from all the colleges and professors from department at the faculty, with whom I worked, an also with support from my family, I decided to enter the PhD research program at the University 1. I successfully pass the PhD exam, and was elected as one of the students who can participate in PhD research program at this university.

My plans now are to continue with hard work and to accomplished as much as possible in the field of bioengineering which is in function of improving human lives. I finally had a chance to use my theoretical knowledge practically.

Beside my research activities, I like to travel. I like your country, and during this year I learned a lot about her history and culture. I also attended language courses in order to learn your language and better understand your habits. Iâm also fluent in English, Serbian and Croatian. My previous working experience in an international multilanguage company helped me to easily adapt to new environment. I have also learned the commitment necessary for success as an individual and how to work as a team member.

Considering my qualifications and interests (exposed above and in my CV), I think that Iâm suitable person to get the scholarship, which will help me to continue with my research activities.
