Hi Eddie, With regard to the semi-colon, I don't think that it's a good idea to present a sentence that you know is incorrect in some way and then proceed to ask detailed questions about other aspects of it. It can waste people's time.

I don't know the word "extant" but based on my quick look in the dictionary, it seems redundant to say current extant, or extant nowadays (and nowadays is too informal for this writing) so just pick either current or extant. I would

"Look" and "looks" are both acceptable for facial appearance, while the colon is perfectly used there as it fulfils one of its uses in introducing the logical consequence, or effect, of a preceding fact.
