He will be working for your father's law firm. future continuous / progressive

I took the test and passed! simple past

She has taken the medicine for her cold. [present] perfect

She had taken the job before she moved here. past perfect / pluperfect

I have been thinking about going abroad for higher education.[present] perfect continuous / continuous [present] perfect

He had been living in France before he was caught. continuous past perfect /continuous pluperfect

It would have cost me a fortune to buy that coat. perfect conditional / in some countries also called the second conditional

He would have ~~had~~ completed the task if he had asked for help. same as the one above

It would have been better if we had gone. same as the one above (better is an adjective and as such has nothing to do with tenses!)

Terminology varies from country to country a little but I think you'll be all right with these names.

Your examples seem to show that you understand it well.

In simple present you actually feel the hate and do the deed. I hate to embarrass you like this. Since hate can have some duration, you could use present continuous. I'm hating every minute of this.

In simple past, I hated taking the toy away from him, but he needed to get some sleep.

When you add the "would," it always seems to be a conditional situation. If I were to lose you, I would hate it. I'd hate to lose you.

A:How is it different? Is the zero conditional and the second and third ones type 1? I think CalifJim told us that the modal 'can' counts as present.

1.If you can make money, please use the money to help people.

2. If you can make money, use money to help people.

3. If you can make money, you will be able to help people.

Can we use a modal verb like can, may, should in the if-clause or the main clause, as well as going to future or present continuous future, as well as a present perfect in the if-clause for both zero and first conditionals? We can't seem to be able to use all those for type 2 and 3 conditionals. sorry for asking many questions.

B:Does this mixed conditional show ongoing circumstances in relation to a event happened in the past OR does it indicate a past result by a present hypothetical situation as I thought it was?

Yes. ... it will tell ... and on what page the information will be located. But we wouldn't normally cast this sentence in the first conditional.

Hi,

Please tell me what conditional these are and it they are correct

If we take a look at the table of contents, it tell us what topics are included and on what page the information is located. -- Is this concern with what some people seem to call 'universal truth' and thus, a zero conditional? A table of contents also tells what topics and information are in the book or text? Can I use modal 'will' before 'tell' and make a first conditional?

It is important to use it if we are going to get accurate information form the map. -- To me, this looks to be a first conditional, where an imperative form is used for the main clause, but the if-clause has a present continuous, not a present tense. Is this correct?

To me, the word 'if' is used like 'whenever' in your sentence, and the word 'will' is used to indicate a habitual or repeated action (i.e. in that sentence, you are saying it is not your habit to wonder about things such as closed doors while you are on vacation). No, as I'm sure you know, the word 'will' is not necessary in your sentence. Removing 'will' would simply present what you (don't) do as a fact.

Do you actually like the present perfect in your sentence? Is that a wording you would actually choose? I can see using the simple past tense (i.e. whether I closed the door), but the present perfect still rubs me the wrong way. I can also see rewording it to "whether the door is closed" -- i.e. the simple present tense of 'be' followed by the adjective 'closed' (the current state of the door).

Using 'will' to build a future tense is often called "the will-future". However, the word 'will' is used in a number of ways in English, and we also have other ways of of referring to the future (e.g. the simple present tense, the present continuous, be going to).

The word 'if' can be used instead of 'whether'. I used 'whether' in Anon's sentence so that the conditional IF part of the sentence would be more obvious.

First conditional: When you're gone, I'll miss you. Not correct. Try "If you (are to) go, Iâll miss you."
Zero conditional: When you're gone, I miss you. OK

Is ARE present simple in both phrases? It is. See bracketed version.

Because in the first conditional, it's strange to think that ARE is talking about the present when it's giving us the idea of future. If it is present simple, are there any other verb tense options when you want to give this idea of future from first conditional? Present continuous or perfect. You can even use âwillâ in the if-clause in this conditional if itâs not an auxiliary and it means determination as in âIf you will(~determine to) go, Iâll miss you.â

1-... You yourself might have experienced those frustrating long hours sitting in a clumsy chair with your reading material on the desk that ..... Yourself is unnecessary here.

2-Let us honestly ask ourselves how effective those long hours were?... the place of honestly doesn't sound good to my ears.

3-...if you were sitting in a chair that fitted just right and supported your body well ... I would say a chair which fits and supports your body well... just to make the sentence shorter and easier to understand.

4-.. If you will say 'yes' to those four questions.. You cannot say will after if in a conditional sentence.

5- ...you have already grasp ... The correct form is you have already grasped.

7- I would use for instead of the preposition to.

8- ... If you are worrying about your kid's ... I don't relish the idea of using present continuous with worry. Semantically, it makes your sentence strange. (maybe it just sounds to me like that) Say worry or feel worried ( this changes according to the meaning you want to give us) because parents generally worry about such things.

9- ...why not seriously consider attending this seminar? Why don't you seriously consider attending this seminar?

10- ...and learn what you can do to help him to study more effectively .. As far as I know the rule is help someone do something . So, I wouldn't use to here.

In English grammar there are 12 tenses consists of (present,past and future)
each on of them consists of 4 parts
1- simple.
2- continuous.
3- perfect.
4- perfect continuous.

these are the shorten words that I used in the forms:

this color is for He, She, It.
