Our fully accredited program is a recognized member of London Academy and CIABT Academy and pebble hills univesity fully in patrnership with.
We provide the unique opportunity to experience evolving from "student" to "teacher". This hands-on program is designed to engage the trainee with active participation. We maintain small class sizes to promote a more intense environment and whenever possible trainers will model teaching techniques and activities which trainees will use in the classroom. We adopt ,essentially, the communicative approach. We take a modern approach in all of our courses, utilizing cutting-edge technology in a multi-cultural environment. We also include a variety of activities based on course books, audio-visual aids and specially-created materials. We emphasize effective development in the four language skills (reading, writing, listening and speaking) with special attention paid to communication and conversation in different contexts and situations.
Unlike many certificate programs, we provide the opportunity to teach both children and adults which is important when looking for work abroad.
The TESOL Certificate- Teachers of English to Students of Other Languages- provides training for those who have little or no teaching experience who wish to enter the English teaching profession.
Our course is externally moderated with all major segments graded before successful completion of the course.
The course is four weeks which entails 120 hours of classroom time. The first two weeks are mostly classroom sessions. The main components included are;

Grammar
Phonology
Teaching Techniques
Classroom Management
Teaching of an unknown language

In the first two weeks, our trainees are students and while moving into the second two weeks, they assume the role of teacher by participating in Observed Teacher Practice. After all, the best way to learn anything is to actually do it.

Simple Past Lesson Plan

Would anybody be kind enough to tell me what they think of this lesson plan I've made for my TEFL module ? Yes, it did.)

No + subject + didn't ( Did Helen come to the party? )

Assumed Knowledge: Past simple ( regular / irregular verbs ,negative form )

Anticipated Problems: Students may use statements without using the auxiliary verb.

E.g. You went out yesterday? Instead of, ( Did you go out yesterday? )

Students may use a past form of the verb to make the question instead

of using the Simple form. E.g. Did you went?

Solutions:

During the presentation stage, draw students' attention to the fact that 'Did' does not change its form. 'Did' is always used to form the question in the Past simple.

Point out the verb tense in the quuestion form. Did + subject + infinitive of the verb

Drill individually and chorally.

Practice making questions. Monitoring for errors and having them put scrambled sentences

in order can also help to work on sentence structure problems.

Preperation and Aids: Simple reading text ,dialogue, in the Simple Past using vocabulary that

students are already familiar with. Handout for homework correcting sentences

Lesson Plan

Stage

Activity

Interaction

Timing

1

Warmer : Timed Scatergories with pre-picked themes (food, things you do on the weekend...)

Review homework from last class

TS

ST

2

Introduction : Using a picture of two young women, elicit from students their names. Write them on the board. Hand out the dialogue between these two friends who are talking about their past weekend. (A dialogue that mostly contains vocabulary the students are familiar with)

TS

ST

3

Have students read the dialogue and answer specific gist questions on it to check their understanding.

S

ST

4

Ask students to focus on the language used by asking what question « A » asked « B ».

Write this question on the board.

TS

ST

5

Presentation : Show students how it is formed

Did + Subject + Infinitive

Did you have a good weekend ?

Point out that we don't use the past form of the verb in questions, but always the infinitive.

TS

6

Drill chorally and individually. Focus on pronunciation and correct structure.

TST

7

Elicit : Draw students attention to the short answer and explain the positive and the negative structures.

Yes + Subject + did Yes I did

No + Subject + didn't No I didn't

TS

8

Drill chorally and individually and then conduct a controlled question and answer drill around the class :

E.g : « Sandrine ask Didier...(point to an action the board : - go to the resaurant

     - go to the movies ) »

ST

SS

9

Pairwork : Students ask and answer questions from the board and note down their partners answers. The focus here is on correct pronunciation and structure so it is important to correct any errors by refering to the structures on the board.

PW

10

Controlled Oral Practice : Use Dialogue text as a basis to talk about what the two characters did on the weekend. Also use visual support such as a picture of a restaurant to prompt questions.

For example show a picture of two friends having a conversation ; encourage them to produce the following question :

« Did they go to a restaurant ? Yes, they did / No, they didn't. »

Give four picture expamples as prompts.

TS

SS

TS

11

Monitor closely. Correct errors by using what's already on the board as a point of reference.

TS

SS

12

If students are performing well, turn focus to what they did on the weekend. They ask each other questions ans give short answers.

PW

13

Follow up with controlled written practice. I could use questions and answers where the words are all mixed up ; students put the words back in the correct order.

S

14

Homework : a transformation exercise (changing affermative statements into questions and short answers)

S

"The Works"

Hi all,

Ok, here goes nothing.

I'm a non-native Eng. speaker, but have studied and lived for 20 years in Eng. speaking countries ( I have a native's fluency ).

I'd like to have as many TEFL qualifications as possible. I'm about to start an internet grammar course ( to prepare me for TESOL / CELTA ) while I'm waiting for my visa approval to Oz.

I really would like to have the best (and most) qualifications (courses/certificates/diplomas) out there that can be had in the next 6-8 months period ( it doesn't have to be in Oz).

I'm considering the idea of having "all what is being offered" out there ( from English courses to brush up my English, TESOL/CELTA, Young Learners' extention/s, Business English, CALL, One-on-One, International Exams preparations -preparing students to take TOEFL/TOIEC etc-, Conversation English, DELTA -if possible- or TESOL Diploma -but from a reputible organization/internationally recognized accreditation, ...etc, ...i.e. all that can be acquired in the next 6-8 -or even to 9 - months. I have about a year off from my work/regular life. I'd like to have all these qualification to help me teach English in Japan/Korea while I'm learning either Jap/Kor. next year. I believe having as many qualifications as possible would help to compensate the fact that I'm not a native English speaker, nor hold the passport of an English speaking country).

It's so far been impossible to find one reputable 'place' that provides all what I'm looking for ( ATTC in Australia looks promising, but not that "comprehensive" ).

All suggestions, thoughts, ideas, opinions are welcome.

What "solid" and recognized TEFL qualifications can I obtain in the next 6-8 ( or even - 10) months ( and preferable at the same institution/school ) ?

Thank you very much.....in advance.

ESL TEACHERS for University's Teaching Project in Nontaburi, Thailand

HIRING NOW!

For and Against.

It is often true that many private teachers touting themselves as
native speakers abroad don't have much more linguistic knowledge than
any other fellow countryman but the alternative is not appealing
either: linguistically educated foreigners who, while they can teach
grammar, and the whys and wherefores of the language, have never been
able to shake off a host of fossilised errors that are characteristic
of foreign teachers. When I go abroad I find myself constantly trying
to get English learners to 'unlearn' the bizarre turns of phrase they
use 'because their teacher taught it to them'. Examples include the way
nearly all Romance-language foreigners will say 'I am learning English
since/for 6 years' instead of 'I have been...', or 'I want that you help
me' instead of 'I want you to help me'. With a native speaker you don't
get the in-depth grammatical knowledge but you are exposed to correct
(usually!) natural English.

Just make sure the native speaker is qualified (e.g. TEFL or other
demonstrable linguistic qualifications, I don't have TEFL but I could
happily teach with 10 years of experience as a professional linguist),
otherwise the only thing he or she is good for is conversation
practice. There are also plenty of foreigners who are excellent English
teachers but far more that will teach you dubious English. In my
experience, I've found the best foreign-language teachers in university
institutions whether they're native or otherwise.

In short, there is an equal abundance of poor native-speaker teachers
as there are non-native, but they are poor for different reasons
(explained above), and if I'm taking my chances between the two I'd go
for the native speaker and make my own efforts to learn the grammar
rather than risk being exposed to strange English. I guess that's why
they are preferred over non-native speakers.
