I'm writing this letter to show my desire to apply for the master program at the *** University for the 2008- 2009 study year about *** European Studies. In the following letter I would like to present my reasons for choosing this program and to provide a general background about me.

First of all I would like to introduce myself. My name is *** *** and I am from Cyprus. As you know Cyprus is the last divided country in Europe for many decades. I live in Northern part of the island, which is not legally recognizd country. I have lived and studied in Cyprus until I graduated from Famagusta Maarif College, than I start studying in Ä°stanbul, Marmara Univeristy about Economics.

My major is Economics however I have studied some lectures related on Europen Union Studies and I give special importance on Europe, I have studied one year in Lithuania, Vilnius as an erasmus student. From that time, I interested more in European Studies, European Politics and it's relations.

During my bachelor studies I was also the member of Cyprus Youth Platform, which is the largest student association targeting TurkishCypriot students who are studying abroad. Currently I am the President of Cyprus Youth Platform, which is located in Turkey, England, Germany, USA and have representatives in Canada, France, Ukrain and Netherlands. Currently under the name of Cyprus Youth Platform, I have joined many conferences about Europe and Euro-Med region, create many projects which are funded by United Nations Development Program (UNDP) and European Union. Projects mostly aimed on Unification of the island, Re-approachment between TurkishCypriots and GreekCypriots, approachment of TurkishCypriots to European Union and increasing their integration with Europe, Rehabilating Cypriots with peace culture. Out of this âmacro aspectsâ Cyprus Youth Platform aim to develop solutions to students and youth problems, increasing awareness, socialization and preventing degeneration of youth, fighting with drug addiction, sexual harrashment.

The main reason why I am applying this program is that out of pratically, I want to improve myself in theoretically about Europe. After finishing succsessfully this program I would like to create benefits for Cyprus. For this prospect living and studying in *** will give me high opportunites. I found that with high number of foreign students, unique character of the program and its multidisciplinary approach, combining political science, history, international relations, culture and economics *** University is the best place to mastering about European Studies. Especially with the possibility to choose different study tracks, either specialising in âEuropean international politicsâ or in âEuropean politics and administrationâ make this program is the best for my future prospects.

Finally, I think *** University is an excellent place to start my career and the program seems like the perfect opportunity for me to meet other cultures, learn another language and experience European education system as well as gain more independence.

Re: Correct order of professional titles after name

Hi,

I have a BSC (hons) degree and a SAC Dip, the degree was first then the diploma but I am in the process of joining goverening bodies for my profession. I am wondering what order do i need to write these titles in and also do i use the titles when filling in forms such as a passport or job application or do i just use them when writing letters. I am confused and cannot find any where online that provides the information.

The principle of 'lowest first, highest last' was suggested earlier in this thread.

I am currently renewing my passport, and I can tell you that, at least in Canada, educational information is not asked for.

For a job application, in my experience, educational qualifications are dealt with on one's resume/CV.

Generally speaking, people don't seem to list such things after their name when writing letters, with the occasional exceptuion of a doctorate. I guess it woud ultimately depend on what type of letter you are writing, and to whom.

Again generally speaking, such things are more commonly mentioned if you work in an academic setting.

I graduated with double diploma namely Advertising and Marketing Communication in 2006 from Institute of Advertising and Communication training (IACT) in Malaysia. While pursuing my studies, I slowly took keen interest in the Public Relations industry where I found that the art of communication and the skill of writing are crucial could result in significant difference for a company.

During my two and the half years learning in IACT, I was awarded with the âBest Student in Public Relationsâ in my batch for performing well in the subject. This award allows me to prove my ability in the public relation industry where I was chosen as the best out of 200 students. During the first semester of study, I took part in Yahoo! InterAd Campaign 2005 where we competed against universities and colleges all over to world by designing an Integrated Marketing Communication (IMC) campaign for Yahoo!. However, being fresh and new to the advertising and marketing industry, we are unable to perform as professionally as the veterans. Instead, we obtained sound experience which is unattainable from the text book.

In order to enhance my portfolio and to gauge my capability, I took part in the BLINK Project during my second year of study. This competition was organized by Unilever, an international manufacturer of leading brands in foods, home care and personal care. We were required to design a new media to capture the consumer attention and to increase the sales of the product. We got the opportunity to advertise our idea in front of the executives and even managers from Unilever which serve as a good experience for us. Finally, our team of 5 emerged as the champion and had been given the opportunity to participate in AdAsia 2005 which was held in Singapore - a premier event that executives in the advertising and marketing communications industry.

In year 2006, I took part in the Cineleisure Competition organized by Cathay Organisation, a leading company engaged in the business of entertainment, leisure, lifestyle and property management services. We were requested to design an IMC campaign for the newly open Cathay Cineleisure Complex in Malaysia. We were to contend against 13 teams from Malaysia ranging from universities to colleges, for instance, Monash University and Universiti Malaya (The Malayan University). As a result, we succeed in astonishing the judges with our dazzling ideas and emerged as the winning team.

During my studies in IACT, I joined the CREACTIVE Student Advertising Agency as a Project Coordinator. CREACTIVE is the very first Student Advertising Agency formed by various talents. We do almost anything from art directing and copywriting to market research and corporate profiles to satisfy our clients needs. We deal with real clients such as XFresh, Malaysian Advertisers Association (MAA), Trident Group and etc. My role in the organization is mainly to deal with all paper works ranging from preparing agenda, WIP report, call for meetings, organize events, and meet up with clients and also to handle the account for the organization. Throughout the two years in CREACTIVE, I was given the opportunity to deal with real clients who widen my exposure, allowing me to apply all theories Iâve learnt in real cases. During this time, I explored several latent aspects of my personality. I developed my inter-personal skills while successfully organizing all events. Besides, it brought to surface my ability to work hard and with sincerity, persistence, motivation, and resilience. In addition, I learned how an organization functions, how to communicate with the graphic designers and AEs, ways to prepare agenda and WIP while others have totally no idea on the meaning of agenda and WIP. I believed that CREACTIVE had definitely built a great platform for my future.

It was also during my learning years in IACT that allow me to undergo a 3 months industry training program. I joined the PR department in MDK Consultants Pte Ltd (www.mdk.com) â one of Singapore's leading public relations consultancies and the only truly Asian homegrown network which has offices in Malaysia and Thailand and a network of strategic affiliates in Australia, Hong Kong, China, Taiwan, Indonesia, Korea, and Japan. MDK is also part of the world's largest communication company, WPP Group plc. During the 3 months internship period, I was fortunate enough to learn from the senior on how to deal with different clients and satisfying their needs. In addition, I learned ways of preparing media materials which helps in improving my writing skills. I aided my seniors in handling clients such as Nickelodeon, AIROD, Avenue K, SONY and etc. This provides me a great platform to the introduction of the public relations industry,

After completing my diploma course, I pursue my career as a PR Coordinator in Vibes Communications â a full-fledged agency with 14 years of experience in the advertising and marketing industry with its headquarter in Singapore. My role in the company was to handle all paper works which includes preparing media materials, monthly report and etc. In addition, I assisted in organizing events, meeting clients and visit the media from time to time in order to build an intimate relationship with them. The main clients that I deal with are Cathay Pacific Airways, BRANDS Essence of Chicken, NIKE, MTV and etc. Throughout the 3 months in the company, I gained a lot of knowledge and have a better understanding towards the PR industry. I believed that I have understood the nature of PR better than before. As a result, I grow more interested in the PR industry.

But one of the blockages at this stage, in my having a great learning experience at UNIV, is funding of expenses. I come from a middle class family and my father can afford a part of but not the full expenses (details of which have been enclosed). My education at CURRENTUNIV is also being funded through the loan taken from a bank. Hence, I would certainly need a financial aid in the form of a scholarship.

I would like to apply for the masterÂ´s programme in Comparative Labour and Organisation Studies. (end sentence)Please let me explain my motivation in a few words.

I am a student in communication science and I am also taking a minor in labour studies.

Last year I participated in a bachelor seminar at the ISHSS (delete comma) and working (delete word)with international students turned out to be a great learning experience. I was very delighted to discover that the ISHSS offers (different to what) masters programmes. (apostrophes not used in plurals! Removed throughout your letter. This is a very bad habit of yours) Since I was already taking an elective course in the field of labour and organisation studies at that time (at what time - when you were on the seminar? make that clear), the COLOS programme immediately draw my attention. For this masters programme, sufficient knowledge in the field of labour and organisation studies is required. Therefore I enrolled in the specialised programme 'Labour Studies' at the Amsterdam Institute for Advanced Labour Studies in September last year. Besides learning more about the field of labour and organisation studies, this programme offered me the opportunity to find out whether I would like to continue my studies within this field. After attending the mini lectures and programme meetings at ISHSS this year and my learning experience within the labour studies programme, I was even more convinced that the answer to (typo) this question is yes.

During my studies I have also been working for a television production company in its department of communications. The company was faced with a fast changing market and in order to maintain their competitive advantage (singular), they had to reorganize its organizational structure. I found this part of my work experience the most interesting. I was a member of the task force that was responsible for presenting a proposal for a new organizational structure. Although I was responsible for a small part of the whole organizational change process, the professional consultants with whom I was working gave me an inside look at the complete process. Through this experience I realized I was eager to learn more on this topic. Organizational change involves much more then presenting a new structure and strategy on paper. It involves redesigning jobs, the training of employees and sometimes the firing of employees. This also increased my interest in matters involving the labour market. I decided to complete my bachelors degree in communication science, taking as many courses as possible in business and communication and switch to a different masters programme that would fit my interest in labour and organisation better.

The COLOS programme offers an exciting interdisciplinary scenario, in which I will have the opportunity to expand my knowledge in the field of labour and organisation studies and to learn from recognized scientists from different disciplines. Studying with both national and international students adds a special element to the programme, which I highly appreciate. Studying at the ISHSS within the COLOS masters programme would enable me to develop a strong background of knowledge and improve my English language skills. This would make it possible for me to pursue a career as an advisor for labour organisations.

Considering my qualifications and interests outlined above and in my CV, I very much hope that you will consider me for the COLOS masters programme.
