We haven't seen each other since we met for our grandfather's birthday in June of last year at ***. As you might have guessed already ... yes, we have our grandmother's 60s birthday coming up; in fact, it is 15 short days away from it.

We need to move fast and makes these arrangements: Did anyone arrange for a place to hold the birthday party? I think there will be around 50 people, mostly relatives of both grandmother's and grandfather's sides showing up for the event-- I am making that number up based on how many people showed up last year. How about our first cousin living in ***. Since he is living abroad, do we need to send the invitation now? Should we inform him of the event by phone, regular mail or express mail? Who is going to manage the expenses involved in getting a restaurant space, assuming we have the party at a restaurant, and the expenses involved?

I think we have many decisions to make but time we have a little time in our hands. Let's discuss these things and get things organized -- the faster we get them organized, the better it is, I think. John, I think you were the person who arranged everything for our grandfather's birthday last year -- I think everyone liked the arrangement, expecially the place (was it *** in Seoul?). Since everyone was happy with it, how about you coming out with a place -- do you have any other special place, like a restaurant, in mind, where it is located centrally so everyone can get to the place easily by car or subway? Please email me soon if you know such a place.

I will be asking all of you for opinions till the party date time to time, so please give me your inputs. Sorry for sounding like pushing you all but as you know, the time is coming up fast and things need to be taken care of.

Thank you for your anticipated understanding.

Yours truly,

anticipation of a pleasurable occasion. Picture your guests smiling
when they read your letter of invitation. Clever phrasing, poetry or a
themed approach may be appropriate for an informal occasion, but you
should express the details clearly.

1. Extend the invitation, naming the event and including the
date, time, and place. If the event has a special purpose, such as
honoring someone or celebrating an anniversary, state this.

2. Indicate if a gift is not expected if the event is a
retirement, an anniversary, or a reception. If a gift is welcome, it is
usually best to say nothing, except in the case of bridal or baby
showers.

3. Indicate the appropriate dress, if there is any reason for question.

4. Express anticipation

5. Ask for a response by a specific date.

6. Be sure include:

The name of the person sponsoring the event (who is the host/hostess?)

Exactly who is invited (can someone bring a guest, spouse, child?)

What type of social event is being held

The date, address, and time of the event

Directions or a simple map if the location may be difficult to find

What type of dress is appropriate or preferred

And then ask theperson to please reply

7. Try to send your invitation letter two weeks or more in advance.

Re: announcing a specific date

Hi,
I would like to ask you question on how to write a formal letter.
