Yes. I think "the" should be capitalized in "The Continental" (sp). I think, a comma after "weather."

2. Technically, no, but no one will know what you're talking about. We'd probably say, "a long bus trip" or "a long trip by rail." If you wish to complain about the duration rather than the distance, "The trip was interminable," or "The trip seemed to take forever."

3. He'd be called "the driver" or "the limo driver." "I'm the limo driver from The Continental." (So you met Ahmed?) I think "concierge" is European, or used by places that wish to seem European. If he felt like introducing himself, he'd probably say, "I'm Ahmed." (He's a terrible driver.)

Edit. I'm thinking "concierge" takes the definite article, like "the desk clerk," even though in a large hotel there may be more than one.

Re: monomial choicing topic

1. Well, A would seem to say that the act of find was done in a surprising manner. But if you separated it with commas, then it would be okeh. I wouldn't say B, but it doesn't sound entirely wrong, either.

2. Yes, the word "prosperity" shouldn't have a definite article unless there is context or a continuation of the sentence to justify it.

Re: Sentence strucutre

Hi Awence

The sentence is less than perfect to me as well. It begins with a subordinate clause introduced with a causal for and the next clause begins with and, a coordinating conjunction. After these comes yet another subordinate clause, a relative clause introduced by whose. There is no main clause in the sentence!

What's more, if the speaker wants to use an indefinite article (a) with wall before the relative clause, the comma should be omitted. Using a is justified by the relative clause, though. The simplest way to make the sentence acceptable would be to leave out for at the beginning, which would render the first clause a main clause.

CB

Re: 1. definite articles - 2. dash and comma ?

Thanks, Barbara. My co-author wrote this sentence:

These
people should not only be identified with the set of the stakeholders who
define the system of the strong interests tied to land use and transformation – and who design and implement the regional planning policies –, but also with
formal and informal organizations through which citizens may eventually focus
and express their requirements, aspirations, needs and expectations, concerning
the present and future organization of the
urban space.

I'm not quite sure about all those articles I've highlighted. Should I delete them? (I think so). I'd also move that "not only" (which is meant to modify "the set," not "identifies") and the whole sentence would read:

These
people should be identified not only with the set of stakeholders who
define the system of strong interests tied to land use and transformation – and who design and implement regional planning policies –, but also with
formal and informal organizations through which citizens may eventually focus
and express their requirements, aspirations, needs and expectations, concerning
present and future organization of the
urban space.

However, his English is far better than mine, so I thought I'd better look for your advice before editing.

Also, how about "–,"? (I know it's a matter of style, but ... are there any guidelines I can refer to?)

Thank you in advance!

Re: articles for a general statement purpose

There are two things to consider when deciding to put a comma in those situations.
