Either &lt;i&gt;to sounding&lt;/i&gt; or &lt;i&gt;to sound&lt;/i&gt; would have worked.&amp;nbsp; Apparently, &lt;i&gt;open&lt;/i&gt; was more important to the author than &lt;i&gt;willing&lt;/i&gt;, so he chose the continuation which goes with &lt;i&gt;open&lt;/i&gt;, namely, &lt;i&gt;to sound&lt;b&gt;ing&lt;/b&gt; different&lt;/i&gt;.&lt;br&gt;
